BANGKOK: -- THE MINISTRY of Digital Economy and Society aims to support “Thailand 4.0” with various projects including high-speed Internet access for all villages, develop the digital gateway to connect with the outside world, and something called “Thailand Digital Big Bang” in the middle of next year.

Pichet Durongkaveroj, the first minister of digital economy and society, said the ministry aimed for all of its agencies to work as a single team to reduce the complexity of their operations.

He said the ministry was committed to making sure every village in the Kingdom was served by high-speed broadband next year. To that end, it will sign memoranda of understanding with all stakeholders in the project such as TOT and the Provincial Electricity Authority next Monday.

Rapid access to a single controlled gateway?

"...high-speed Internet access for all villages..."

I think I'll move out to a village somewhere.
My internet was virtually non-existant last night.

Living in a remote village with internet speeds slower than smoke signals, I am kind of excited to hear about the broad band. Even if it is potentially just another promise with no plan attached.

Now the  village  idiots can play games  all day  long!

no wi-max  by  u  canuck?

In one year, broadband to 100,000 villages. Ya, sure.

First rule of thumb with software and hardware: never buy a .0 version of anything. Will wait for Thailand 4.3 or above before I try.

“Thailand Digital Big Bang” could be “Thailand Digital Big Bust” if they introduce the Single Gateway.

They can say or promise you anything. The big question is will they deliver what they say. And in only one years time. Never going to happen. It will take at least a year to get approval and financing.

This government seems to have too many cooks spoiling the digital pot.  Oh, and the tourism pot.  Oh, and the foreign investment pot.  They just cannot leave something alone.

That's nice , Thais will then be able to send Selfie Pics to Facebook faster

Might this be the single gateway system in disguise?? These guys are great at cloak and dagger stuff. I think we will all feel a pain in our backs before all is said and done.

we had one of the first televisions  they were queuing  up to be my best mate unquote. We were poor and I can remember queuing up. We watched TV till the Indian test pattern came on then I would bike two miles home in the dark. Crazy times.

In our rural area, 6 months ago  TOT simply just stopped providing service, no explanation, no notice in fact it was worse than that, they strung us along for two months saying it would be fixed in a few days, up to the day we cancelled service when we were billed for the next month as part of the cancellation ransom when they also said, "Are you sure? Why? We will have the connection up and running tommorrow." They have no interest or incentive to do any such thing as an internet big bang, unless that refers to the whole thing collapsing. The single gateway thing is what I would guess this is about and that seems to be a way to shut the internet off as many experts have warned you can't run a country's internet on a single gateway.

I got one, broken of course, but I'm betting on keeping that thing for 50 years and flogging it off in eBay for some serious $$$ as an antique.

Lightning fast access to heavily censored information - GREAT!
