Saraburi ISOC opens seminar on foreign worker rights

SARABURI, 22 December 2016 (NNT) – The Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) of Saraburi province has held a meeting on the rights of foreign workers in Thailand in a latest bid to stem human trafficking.

The meeting took place at Kyo-Un Hotel in Mueang Saraburi district. Deputy director of Saraburi’s ISOC Maj Gen Rangsan Yimsu presided over the opening ceremony. Attendees consisted of government officials from related agencies, employers and foreign workers.

Specialists from Saraburi Province Labor Office and Saraburi Provincial Police were invited to give lectures on the rights of foreign laborers, how to protect oneself from abuse and human trafficking as well as do’s and don’ts in Thai culture. The activity was one of the attempts to prevent use of illegal laborers and crime in factories hiring imported workers. The number of foreign employees is particularly high in Nong Khae district where Nong Khae Industrial Estate is located.

Probably not attending is former aide to Gen. Prayut and military officer in ISOC Lt. Gen. Manus Kongpan. The military arrested him in 2015 as a kingpin in human trafficking, detention and ransom. He was "suspended" but never prosecuted in military or criminal courts. He might have had a lot of insight to human trafficking in Thailand.
