Gen. Sonthi affirms NLA selection will be completed on time

The Army Commander in Chief, Gen Sonthi Boonyaratkrin (สนธิ บุญยรัตกลิน), affirms that the selection of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) member will not be delayed. He also said he is confident that people in general will be happy with the outcome of the new Constitution.

He said that the committee selecting NLA members has considered very carefully the candidates’ profiles and select 200 suitable people out of 1,982 people. Gen Sonthi said that the selected members are currently waiting for royal appointment by His Majesty the King before the official announcement.

He said that the meeting concerning drafting new Constitution will be convened in the beginning of the next year.

In response to a survey conducted by Bangkok Poll indicating that the weight of confidence on the NLA selection and the drafting of the new Constitution, did not appear too encouraging, Gen. Sonthi said otherwise.

He said that the committee drafting the new Constitution understands which points in the 1997 Constitution 1997 should be amended.
