BANGKOK: -- One man was stabbed and shot seven times and many were injured as two shooters opened fire at a Bangkok nightclub on New Year's Day.

An argument had seethed between two groups of people who had been drinking since Saturday evening at the Long Chom Restaurant in the Nong Jork area of the city, reports Thairath.

Witnesses said that after midnight two men opened fire on a group of people who had gone onto a live music stage to dance.

One man - Suchart Sakeeree, 33 - went to the aid of a woman who was shot. One of the shooters then pulled out a knife and stabbed him before he was shot seven times.

He died later in hospital.

Six other people whose ages ranged from 27 to 37 were shot once or twice each.

Police found three .33 and 14 nine millimeter shell casings at the scene.

Witnesses said that the names of the shooters were "Sut" and "Moo".

Police held a crisis meeting later in the day - they know the identity of the gunmen and an arrest warrant was being sought.

The restaurant featured live music and had only been open two months. All the victims were in a group of 30 who had started drinking at 5pm. Another group of seven that contained the gunmen had arrived later and sat nearby.

An argument had started when people were bumped into while dancing but things escalated later when a female in the attackers' group had a problem with one from the victims' group and a fist fight began.

Then the shooting started.

So trivial, for most, an apology would suffice.

But not losing face is so important to them.

Not the last case of machismo, causing death, this year we will hear about, for sure.

Bangkok night club, thats stretching it a bit,so the police know the shooters,

Sut and Moo, so will they go and arrest them,or given them a summons to

report to the station in the next week or at their earliest convenience ,which

seems to be the normal method now.

Absolutely ridiculous in almost every aspect. Murderous feeling coming to the surface over an argument, people being allowed into nightclubs carrying guns, stabbing a guy who is helping a woman who was shot, the police having crisis meetings when solving crime is supposed to be their job, and needing to seek arrest warrants for people who have killed and seriously wounded others.

Go and arrest these @$$#oles NOW before anyone else gets hurt by them. Jesus weapt this country disgusts me sometimes ?

Here we go again an arrest warrant was being sought. Crickey go out and arrest them do not wait 2 or 3 days after the fact. More than likely when you arrive at their abode there will be a note on the frig "cookies and milk inside for the cops"

There's a lot of guns in Thailand...does the junta consider the potential of excessive firearms?

It will eventually become the flavor of the day just be patient. Everything is done on a rotational basis. Right now we are dealing with holiday accidents. That is front and foremost. Then there is the burning season which comes in the near future. The a boat will sink and become the flavor of the day and then entrapping motorbike racers and helmet crackdowns it all gets a turn. After their rotation their section becomes silent unless something happens out of sequence that hits the press and then its off to the races with a premature investigation.

I don't know many people who go to night clubs armed with guns and knives for use just in case they get bumped on the dance floor.

If you carry a weapon whether you use it or not and are caught it should be a minimum of 5 yrs jail for attempted murder.
