Labour Ministry vows equal treatment to workers of all nationalities

BANGKOK, 3 December 2016 (NNT) – The Ministry of Labour has stressed its non-discriminatory principle to provide equal legal protection to immigrant workers to be on par with their Thai counterparts, while preparing multilingual media aimed at informing workers on their legal rights, says the labour rights chief.

The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare (DLPW) Sumet Mahosot said all immigrant workers will receive impartial legal protection similar to Thai workers regardless of their nationalities as the department is responsible to ensure fair employment to all workers.

All workers are entitled to a safe working environment, fair wages, good welfare, and are free from forced employment.

The DLPW has produced a multilingual media on the rights of employers and employees according to the Labour Protection Act BE 2541 in terms of publications and radio spots in Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodian. The department has also produced multimedia resources on safety, hygiene, and working environment for construction work in Thai, English, Myanmar, Lao, Cambodian, and Vietnamese in order to convey to workers their rights and available services.

The DLPW is also working with the Labour Rights Promotion Network (LPN) on the exchange of information related to unfair treatment to workers in order to enhance the coverage of labour protection.

Does this mean an instant pay rise for all of the Burmese workers in Samui, Phangan and Koh Tao..........

To be fair, the Labour Ministry have a pretty good reputation for sorting out disputes favourably for foreign teachers as long as the teacher has a reasonable case. At least at that level, we whitey teachers never had much cause for complaint.

Not sure how this might carry down for a couple of Burmese on the wrong end of some Thai face, though.

If this is similar to marriage vows it will never come to fruitation.

Great, so the foreign workers can also sit in a tent down the road all day and get paid.

Care to elaborate? Are you actually believing in the "we will be fair to all foreign workers" - myth?

So long as equal justice isn't involved.

You know yesterday I saw at least three pigs flying, not a rare occurrence here I must say.

You missed the sarcasm in my post.

Equal treatment to workers of all nationalities? Well yeah...except for when scapegoats are needed, shrimp sheds need to be staffed, and fishing boats need to head out to sea.
