Thailand to launch “Sustainability in Thailand: Experience for Developing Countries” publication at UN Headquarters in New York

BANGKOK, 12 January 2017 (NNT) - The Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations, in cooperation with the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), will launch a publication entitled “Sustainability in Thailand: Experience for Developing Countries” and convene a panel discussion under the theme “Pathways to Sustainability: Thailand’s Sufficiency Economy Philosophy” at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on January 12, 2017.

The event will be chaired by His Excellency Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, and Mr. Jorge Chediek, Envoy of the Secretary-General on South-South Cooperation and Director of the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC).

The publication launch event will be held on the eve of the handover ceremony of the chairmanship of the Group of 77 from Thailand to Ecuador. This publication, jointly published by the Royal Thai Government and the UNOSSC, is the first in the ‘South-South In Action’ Publication Series, and highlights the important role the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy, as graciously bestowed by His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej to the people of Thailand over two decades ago, in the development of the Kingdom.

Following the publication launch, a panel discussion under the theme “Pathways to Sustainability: Thailand’s Sufficiency Economy Philosophy” will be convened. The interactive panel discussion will be participated by high-level officials and experts from different countries and entities of the United Nations, with the objective to strengthen a more impactful South-South cooperation.

The publication launch and panel discussion could be viewed at http://webtv.un.org on 12 January 2017 at 16.30 - 18.00 hrs. local time in New York (04.30 – 06.00 hrs. on 13 January 2017 local time in Thailand).

Oh Brother! Rather big overseer father...Elite, that is. Along side with unfathomable Thailand 4.0

Thailand should be ostracised by the UN for its shameful Human Rights conduct, not facilitated.

Pathways to Sustainability: Thailand’s Sufficiency Economy Philosophy

Rip off the poor hardworking

While the small amount of rich get richer

New title

Pathways to Sustained Scamming, Murder, supression and bullsh-- thailand Philosophy

It would appear that the commenters are not familiar with the principle of the Sufficiency Economy. At least their crude and superficial comments makes it easy to come to this conclusion.

If you don't know what it is, why bother to comment. If you know what it is, discuss it on the merits or lack thereof. Is that too much to ask?

Good summary.

But we are familiar with the competency of any Thai official and this also stinks of brownish buffalo waste.

Would you kindly explain it in 100 or fewer words?

Fantastic pomposity with no substance - I mean your post not the even more nebulous concept of the Sufficiency Economy.

But I stand by to be immediately corrected and enlightened by you on its massive merits.

Let's hear those principles from those public servants without entourages on TV , radio and the internet against those who might wish to dispute what they are told and maybe take it from there. Until then, it strikes me that it could be argued it is a philosophy to serve the status quo.

As the PM thinks Thai will be the new world language the publication will be published in Thai language only.

Concept of "sustainability" is so overused it has lost any tangible or real meaning. It has become PC jargon to permit whatever ensues in political terms and has moved its dictionary definition to the ether.

The concept Is nothing more than reinventing the KISS principle..

Yes, in practice.

I've always thought it's based on the Buddhist concept of 'needs rather than wants' , and is therefore a good way forward as it doesn't include conspicuous consumption, the notion of 'elite' or the destruction of our planet!

Given the present state of the world in general and the Western world in particular, it's possibly not top of the popularity poll for most people, not to mention almost all politicians and their cronies world wide.

I think it means sustaining over 50 % of the wealth owned by less then 1%, actually I think it''s a tenth of one percent, the third biggest margin in the world after Russia and just behind India.
