Official response to police exam scandal due Monday

AN OFFICIAL response to the police entrance-exam cheating scandal will be revealed on Monday and those involved will be punished regardless of their status, said national police deputy chief General Dechnarong Suticharnbancha yesterday.

 

The alleged cheating was uncovered by the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) and the Provincial Police Region 7.

 

Dechnarong said he and a fact-finding panel – comprising representatives from the MPB, Provincial Police regions one to nine, the Southern Border Provinces Police Bureau and the Border Patrol Police Bureau – had come up with possible responses to the scandal and police commissioner General Chakthip Chaijinda would consider them on Monday.

Have multiple RTP 'leaders' chime in on the various committee suggestions.

 

Have the national police chief declare that article 44 is needed to clean up the exam process.

Also have the pm use article 44 to:

 

- Remove 99% of the police and retire them, not allowed to ever rejoin the RTP

- Or, remove and retire the top say 4 levels of RTP, not allowed to ever rejoin the RTP.

 

Declare very serious punishment for any 'old' cop found to be interfering.

And investigate all old cases of corruption and any form of illegal activity, and punish as appropriate.

 

Replace the police / top levels with a well selected and capable team of military officers and men to create a new beginning with serious punishment for any transgressions.

 

Part of the task being to design a new RTP and progressively create a new and different brand of cops, well educated, well educated, different attitudes. At the right time withdraw the military.

Will the perpetrators have to repay the 400,000-,500,000 fee per head,

or has the money already been divided out, can see a few wrists getting 

slapped.few inactive posts,that's about it,this has been going on for years,

and not only in the Police force,how far back will they go.

So the MPB, et al never previously anticipated possible cheating to have ALREADY addressed the issue of possible punishments. Now that news of cheating has been revealed to the public, these agencies scramble to devise punishments?

 

If correct, this potentially raises an issue with Civil Service regulations. For example, if no punitive action has been prescribed (ie., in the regulations) by breach of CS regulations, they may not be applied after-the-fact against the accused. Punishments are used to DETER inappropriate behavior. One might argue that the lack of any definitive punishments for cheating in the current regulations in effect encourages cheating.

 

In which case the Ministry should take the blame for administrative failure and give the accused in this case the opportunity to remediate themselves by retaking the exams, albeit with proper regulations now in place.

Unless you consider jailing of the stand in exam students while the RTP beneficiaries continue plying their trade as some form of justice.

Agree. And:

 

- Surely there is an internal low key RTP / gov't watchdog which should be continuously checking for and discovering such antics.

 

- Yes similar large police exam scams have happened several times before. Last one, very similar to the recent event was just 3 or 4 years back. Some form of pager in many candidates pocket emitting something to give the answers.

Yes that is right. Cheating and lying are endemic and admired and do not attract the same disapproval as in other cultures. HOwever culture is an explanation not an excuse. Look at Singapore - same particularist culture but able to mature into a thriving (mostly) law abiding economy with trustworthy institutions - especially the police a particular target of Lee Kwan Yew.

 

Thailand, fast becoming the village idiot of the ASEAN community, remains an epicenter of BS. Just don't get caught! No wonder young people in ASEAN countries say on social media "Don't Thai to me!"

Statement out by Monday. Can't tell the truth, so buying time to craft some bs which, going by current trends, will be nothing short of 'Comedy of the Year' material. Most probably stupid too. Can't wait for the brown clowns' performance on Monday.
