Here it is very normal (odd things in western countries) , even though I have experienced some of this kind of behaviors by some Asians in CA. One of those is when you are trying to pay at cashiers some people place many items right front of you and try to push you to a side before you are done.

I have not had this or some other problem in Japan.

Well I guess we need to adapt with things that are pretty normal here.

Had it happen a few times over the years. Sometimes the seller will tell the queue jumper to wait their turn. If they don't I just walk away. I could make a scene but you never know how it will end up if you do.

One time though, I was next in line in Jusco and this gangster looking Thai walks up and puts a can of coke on the belt in front of my groceries. I was just about to say something when he turns around and with a big smile and in perfect English says, excuse me sir but I have only one item and you have many, can I go first? I nearly burst out laughing but said no problem. Couldn't really refuse him

Maybe I'm old-school from a bygone era when people were far more polite, but when I'm in the supermarket with a load of shopping and people behind me have only 1 or 2 items I let them through, Farang or Thai.

Sorry joeyg, my comment was intended for Destiny1990. I meant no objection or disrespect for your comment. You posted before I could finish my reply.

Speaking of returning to the US, in the last 2 years I have 5 farang friends that have returned to the US for good. I think about it sometimes, but I really like the place where I live and doubt I could recreate it, in the US, for anything less than $500,000. Comfortable house on a pretty lake with a mountain view. So, I've made the decision to stay.

Now-a-days, I just give an insincere smile just like the Thai's do.

Personally, I think a poker face (no discernable expression) serves you better in Thailand. If you smile they think you're just another naive tourist.

Happens at 7-11.

They just walk in front of the farang next in line - and the checker serves them every time.

As a American I find this English fixation with the queue funny.

I once worked in Saudi Arabia and the Saudis were far worse then at jumping the queue than the Thais are here.

As an American, I find the notion of waiting for your turn to be reasonable.

What kindergarten did you go to? lol

I am surprised no Chinese queue jumpers mentioned so far on this topic. They are by far the most rude arrogant queue jumpers in the world. Possibly because they have to push and shove in China due to the overcrowded situation. I forgot how many I elbowed (accidentally)in the Australian betting shops as they shoved in to get a bet on at the last minute. I was even thanked by the person serving at the window once saying the offender had been pushing in all day.

Before they introduced the roped Q's at the Banks ,it used to

be like a rugby scrum, trying to get your bank book in the tray.

Q jumping is something Thai people do,were you in a hurry,

you never got your Papaya, and the seller is not going to change

just because you walked away, this is Thailand, not the West.

regards worgeordie

The queue is a Western concept; Asia is filled with queue jumpers

Yup... you are still here.

Absolutely familliar. It happens a lot in the 7 where the line there is really a crowd and when an assistant becomes available, thais will come from the back and simply butt in.Thats why the bid lotus's have it right. You have to que at the checkout.I never let it bother me because,we have to remember that Thai people are not taught manners, because they dont know what they are. We live in a 'me first society here" justlet it go and be happy in the fact that we are generally more polite, and well mennered than they are.I am not going to die for a sake of a few minutes.

There are queue jumpers everywhere. When it happens in Thailand- I just smile and wait. There are many irritants that can drive one to anger but I refuse to become angry or irritated. Life is just too short. Live and let live.

Don't make excuses for these rude Thais.

When it happens, and it happens a lot, it's racism.

You don't count as much.

If you live here, you just learn to accept it.

It's the fault of both the vendor and the jumping customer.

The jumping customer obviously but a decent vendor will shut them down and serve you first.

To expand on this thought a bit more. How many of us have heard Thais tell us to "go home farang"? Many really do despise (are jealous of) us just a bit behind the Thai smile.

I'm wondering why you found it necessary to point out the lady was fat.....maybe the seller is not the only one with discriminations.

Actually had this happen at swamp immigration a few weeks back (didnt happen to me, but I was witness to it).

The lines were massive, and we were all waiting patiently for our turn to me prcessed, when a family of Chinese consult ignored the Q and walked straight to the front (2 adults, grandparent and a child) of the Q, the ppl they jumped infront of right asked them what the F they thought they were doing, and a massive argument broke out. The chinese ppl were going nuts, saying they have been waiting a long time, and they deserved to go thru first. I was absolutely pissing myself in laughter.

Security ended up been called, and the chinese ppl were asked to go to the back of the line, which they rufused to do. It actually then got pretty seriouse and the two adults ended up been frog marched off (rest of the family in tow). Everyone have a bit of a cheer, and tbh, I have no idea what happened after that, but they werent back in line by the time I went through.

Never heard it in 15 years, if your feeling so opressed and victimised in Thailand why you still here then ?....surely the pull of cheap women for you to have paid sexual intercourse is a big draw for some, but cant believe you would tolerate oppression just for the sake of paid for sex ?

I am of the opinion that the average Thai doesnt give a rats ass about farangs, they just dont appear on their radar, but if thinking they are jealous of you and that makes you feel better about yourself, keep telling yourself that

Maybe the fat Thai lady is his best customer..or had placed the banana order before you arrived then gone off to buy other things

but (  logically )  he should have served you first as he had already started.

Sometimes if I'm feeling mischievous  I'll say rather loudly  in the direction of the Q jumper

"thank you"   in a Tinglish accent    say it as  "tsang Q"  ( q jumper )   they normally look rather sheepish and sometimes even admit their error !

Whats the point of the accent?

what does your show hope to acheive?

I can only relate my experience. Sorry if you don't agree with my experiences.

I think I have a pretty good grasp as I have lived in 3 different geographic areas of LOS & have lived in Thailand, full time, for just a few months shy of 10 years. Thai's have no manners.

Thais are all smiley & pleasant when they want something or want you to buy something they are selling. You will get lots of smiles when you are a tourist. But get out of BKK, Pattaya or Phuket and, lets say, go up country. You will have a much different experience. Thai's are xenophobic. That's one reason we have to jump through all the stupid hoops at immigration.

You would think that, after 10 years,  I would qualify for some type of visa that didn't require yearly renewal and/or 90 check ins. Nope. They really don't want you here and hope you will leave. Don't forget to leave your money behind.

By the way, I agree with joeyg...I avoid farangs as well. I'm a quite happy farang quasi hermit.

How did you manage to get from queue jumping to your visa issues?

What do you think your 10 years entitles you to? I note it was significant enough  to be mentioned twice.

Yes of all the ones that bug me there are 2, the one already mentioned(the putting stuff down and walking off to continue shopping) I think I will try the add stuff to their order, the other is getting all stuff put thru then starting the long search for a way to pay for it all, dont have a remedy for that one.

This is spot on.  Its not a calculated insult, its a complete abscence of ackowledgement, you are simply unseen.

Which is quite a slap if you feel you are entitled to specific treatment.

This occurs everywhere, its primarily self-involvement and is not only practiced on foreigners.

Try being an older person in a First World country. The most commonly-heard complaint is "we're invisible"

I was sitting in a baht bus waiting at the terminus to go to Jomtein, all the seats were taken, the driver approached the back of the bus with a school girl maybe about 12 years old, he gestured to me to get up, I shook my head and said no, then he gestured to another guy and he got up and the girl took his seat.

I am trying to fathom your point  -  Maybe pushing to your left or right  to make room would have worked in your favor??  Please expand on how saying 'No' was the right thing to do??  or did you feel he singled you out because you are a non-thai??  Maybe I am too polite, I would have at least tried, then commented Tum Mai Dai Khrap..............or patted my lap whatever.

Just to put a sprag in his premise, that farangs are unwanted, if that was the case why are they introducing a 10 year retirement visa then, exactly as the poster has requested ? Surely if "the Thais are h×ll bent on stopping farangs living here, why introduce a 10 year retirement visa ?

So lets look at the oppressed not wanted farangs long term visa situation

1. 5 year visa - 500k

2 20 year visa - 2.0 million

3 10 year retirement visa in progress

These sorts of arrangement are not indictive of a country or a population who doesnt want foreigners living in that country

Although he might be correct in suggesting they dont want poor foreigners living in Thailand, and right so IMHO

I was sitting in the middle, and there was no way anyone could move to make more room, I think there was a chance that he singled me outbecause I was a Thai, but that never entered my mind at the time, my attitude was "no one tells me what to do".:post-4641-1156693976:

When I first moved to Thailand , around 12 years ago, seemed this happened quite often ...

Although over the years, have noticed fewer and fewer cases of Thais trying to cut into the front of the line

To be honest, it's been so long since its happened, cant even remember the last time.

I would just put it down to "You are not wanted here, but your money certainly is", and don't forget all the connected government and Immigration officials with their fingers in the pie.

Wow after "your money".LOL..a whole thb 300/day or there abouts for the 500k visa

appears to be .too many whinging paranoid farang professional victims kicking about in Thailand.

Ok lets explore your bar stool remarks...in the case of the impending 10 years retirement visa, please explain how  immigration have their fingers in the pie in this instance ?
