BANGKOK, 19 January 2017 (NNT) - The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has announced that the Thai industries sentiment index has increased to the highest level in almost two years. The federation however expressed concerns over the rising costs of production, volatile global economy and effects of the southern flooding.

FTI Chairman Chen Namchaisiri said the Thai industries sentiment index in December 2017 was at 88.5 or the highest level in 22 months. The increasing index was the result of higher purchase orders and production at the end of last year due to the government’s tax measures to stimulate domestic consumption.

The chairman stated further that the industries sentiment index for the next three months slightly lower than the previous month due to concerns over raw material prices, minimum wage hike, oil price, the global economy and the flooding in the South.

Mr. Chai therefore urged the government to urgently impose measures to assist the flood-affected people and stimulate private investment. He also suggested that the public sector support the networking of Thai entrepreneurs in order to strengthen businesses and expedite budget disbursement for the government’s small projects in rural areas.

So an artificial bubble created in one month out of the last two years.

Not very encouraging.
