Well-known film producer fined for contempt of court in rice-pledging trial

BANGKOK: -- A well-known Thai film producer and independent film director ML Mingmongkol Sonakul and her associate were today fined 500 baht each after both were found guilty of acting in a manner that could be a threat to the safety of state prosecutors.

ML Mingmongkol, better known as Mom Tao Na, and her associate Thad Wanparuhat, a former secretary to a dissolved House Standing Committee on Religion Affairs, were charged by state prosecutors in the Supreme Court’s  Criminal Division for Political Office Holders for contempt of court during the trial of former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra in the rice pledging scheme.

The prosecutors accused them of acting in a manner that was a threat to their safety when both followed the state prosecutors closely after the ending of the hearing session, took their photos and staring them at close range. This happened at noon on October 7 last year.

Hang them, they are the worst of the worst.

Staring at close range, oh the horror of it all.

I'm no Yingluck fan by any means but this is a ridiculous ruling. Same as children saying "mommie he's looking at me."

"I'm gonna get you!" - done by children has one meaning, while done by educated adults has a much different meaning.

Bt3000 can get a Thai tom boy abducted and murdered...thus...

Some guilt consciousness of the prosecutors to be so sensitive. They know that they have gone too far in their persecution of Yingluck. The junta similar rice pledging must be playing on their mind. Feel sorry for the prosecutors to have an agenda written for them.

contempt of court? so this happened when they were in court? from what i read it they followed closely after the hearing session.. u can only follow a person when they walk around. maybe the prosecutor was walking around in the courtroom and they were following closely around? anyways don't make sense at all.

Good to know what worth the court places on the safety of state prosecutors.

Seeing the value of their prosecutions, I agree with the court.

I am sure they are intimidated at the massive fine. Shows how serious the court really is. And it really sets an example for the rest of the country. Follow a prosecutor too closely, and you will get slapped with the fine of your life. Who can afford such a fine? Such a serious and powerful judiciary. The people are trembling with fear. Such authority. Such conviction.
