Improvement in garbage disposal last year

BANGKOK: -- Thailand’s garbage disposal has improved with 17 million tonnes out of a total of some 27 million tonnes of garbage generated last year being disposed of, leaving behind 10 million tonnes yet to be disposed of.

Mr Jatuporn Burutpat, director-general of Pollution Control Department, attributed the improvement in garbage management to public cooperation especially in the separation of garbage in conjunction with preservation of the environment.

Out of the 27 million tonnes of garbage produced last year, about 4.2 million tonnes came from Bangkok. By average, each Thai produced 1.14 kgs of garbage/day compared to 1.13 kgs/day a year earlier.

Nakhon Si Thammarat and Chachoengsao boast the highest amount of leftover garbage of one million tonnes each. Chon Buri, Surat Thani, Songkhla and Samut Prakan also record more than one million tonnes each being produced.

Impossible......just another Thai PBS made up story.

The garbage issue in Thailand is chronic, dangerous and at levels that are soon to be irreversible!

No-one here wants to do anything about it...

High temp. incinerators are constantly out of order and awaiting parts....the truth probably is that the funds have gone for parts......

Our village has a zero waste policy. Garbage and especially plastic is burnt daily. No need for garbage collection or disposal.

Same here and can also see it thrown on the side of the roads. Maybe with Thailand 4.0 things will be different. While the govt. is improving the lives of Thais maybe clean accessible drinking water would be considered.

Our village has no garbage collection and they closed the waste disposal dump about 2 years ago. No option but to burn waste.

Meanwhile the Or Bor Tor is installing a beautiful big concrete new flower bed outside its office at no doubt considerable cost.

Until another year's garbage of 27 million tons arrives, in ad infinitum.

This is not a victory.
