marrying in the UK (advice and help needed

Featured Replies

Hi there everyone,

I have been a reader of thai visa for a number of years, I decided to sign up and join the community as I need some good advice.

My thai gf came to the UK to visit on a 6 month tourist Visa,  on new years eve I popped the question and asked her to marry me, :-) (she said yes)

We think we would like to get married in early April this year in the UK,  has anyone been in a similar situation, where they decided to get married while there

other half was visiting in a tourist visa? I read about a needing a view to marriage visa if she was still in Thailand,  but as she is already in the UK visiting for 6 months

are we allowed to get married?  we are both a little stressed out whats best to do :-(

Thank you in advance for any helpful info :-)

Firstly I cannot categorically answer your question but the visa is a permission to enter the country and as she is already legally over there then why not do the deed.

i don't think it will say on your visa anywhere that you may or may not get married or go to the cinema or whatever.....lol

Now if you are hoping that once you are married then she can automatically stay with you then that is something else altogether. I think she will still have to return to Thailand and then apply for a marriage visa following the usual channels.

Just my assumptions and common sense, (could be wrong) good luck.

Contact your local immigration office. They will know for sure what you need to do. As for getting married of course you can. If you plan on staying in the UK longer than her tourist visa, then she will need to apply to change her reason for extension to be marriage rather than tourist. But in the UK there are quite a few hoops to jump through like salary and other things.
