webfact
Probe ordered into electrical cable bribery BANGKOK: -- Interior Minister Anupong Paochinda has ordered the Metropolitan Electricity Authority and Provincial Electricity Authority to set up separate panels to investigate alleged bribery taking by officials of the two state utilities over the procurement of electrical cables from US company, General Cable. The bribery scandal came to light after General Cable was fined by the US Justice Department after the company was found to have paid bribes to state officials in several countries, including Thailand, to secure deals to supply electrical cables. PEA governor Sermsakul Klaikaew said he had formed a probe panel which is made up of PEA officials and representatives from the Justice Ministry. He added that the panel would ask for more information about the alleged bribery from the US Justice Ministry. He believes the panel can wrap up the case within 15 days. mtls2005
Why do I have a feeling that any/all "corruption indicies" will show that Thailand has made significant progress towards number 1?
Muhendis
Gotta laugh at this one. It's the only way American companies can sell their overpriced cables.
Narratio
Wrap it up in 15 days? This, I have got to see. It'll tack longer than that to find some suitable low level minion, shove a few thousand baht into his bank account and get him paraded around as the singular guilty man. Especially as he has to have worked at both organisations... tricky that.

It seems that is was PROVEN that in Thailand the payments went directly to the government staff. http://www.fcpablog.com/blog/2016/12/29/general-cable-pays-75-million-for-fcpa-settlement.html Now it took me about 5 minutes to produce this much. How much information do you think the Thai officials will find in 2 weeks,.
