Amnesty ‘the common link to unity bids’

By KHANITTHA THEPPHAJORN
THE SUNDAY NATION

THE ISSUE of amnesty is often raised whenever there is an effort to end the ongoing political conflict and reach reconciliation between the conflicting groups.

Past committees set up to determine ways to deal with the problem, which has continued for over a decade, mostly came up with a suggestion to offer amnesty to those who violated the law due to political reasons.

Altogether seven such committees were established between 2009 and 2016 for the mission and they submitted separate reports with suggestions on how to achieve reconciliation. The proposals differed from one committee to another, but many of the study groups agreed that amnesty was needed to achieve national unity.

You need better study groups.

A functioning legal system with equal rights for all is required not amnesties.

We are in the throes of a disfunctional system then. I would never have guessed.

"Reconciliation" is being used by the junta only as a buzz word or a sales gimmick to fool the people.  No substantive efforts are being made for true reconciliation.

"...Altogether seven such committees were established between 2009 and 2016 for the mission...many of the study groups agreed that amnesty was needed to achieve national unity..."

Despite this, we seem to be at yet another fork in Thailand's painful crawl along the so-called "roadmap" to whatever the junta calls it (democracy, reconciliation, reform, transparency).

The junta's response is probably best summed up by Jeremiah 5:21 (King James Bible version):

"Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not" !!!

Yes, the bible, a good read but I think Tolkien is more appropriate.

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them, In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.1485688145908.jpg.c996c387529dbfe851d715

Dysfunctional that'd be to easy Corruption

Of all levels TIT

Somedays I feel dysfunctional when getting out of bed and wonder if something in my internals is corrupted. End result is a lack of sleep.

Amnesty is only available to PM Prayut.

As in..... "I give myself amnesty if my special rice deal fails"

No amnesty if someone else's rice deal fails.
