Probe into Rolls-Royce bribery not stalled: Anti-Graft Agency

BANGKOK — Thailand’s anti-graft agency is still working with its British counterpart to determine which officials took a billion baht in bribes from Rolls-Royce for over a decade, the agency’s chairman said Monday.

 

The assurances come after the investigation showed signs of stalling, with no names identified nearly two weeks after it was launched following the British firm’s Jan. 17 admission to a U.K court that it paid bribes to Thai Airways employees and state officials over the course of 13 years to lobby for purchase of its aircraft engines.

The names have to be a in a report somewhere. If the UK won't disclose them, and Thai government want them to make contingency plans, hopefully Wikileaks can get a hold of them. Would love to see them splashed all over the internet.

The big fish will be protected.  Slush money is paid to frontmen/underlings, who in turn pass on some of the money upwards.

The frontmen will be coerced to keep their mouths shut, but if they show signs of squealing, I hope they have ironclad accident insurance policies.

Common knowledge that the big wigs for TG are top Air Force brass.

I believe the allegation is, the bribery payments went both to TG execs and government officials who had influence over the procurement process and decisions during the varying periods of time.

When the "authorities" here say that an investigation is "Not Stalled" you can be certain that they've found at least seven different methods to "not stall" it.

 

Perhaps not the best word to use for jet engines though?

I give Former Phuket Senator Tunyaratt Achariyachai alot of credit for speaking out about corruption in Phuket. Not many whistle blowers in this country. Most are too afraid to say anything, and if they do they get crushed like ants, or face cowardly defamation suits. What she is saying is something everyone already knows. But, at least she is saying it. Will anything be done? No. Why? This government has no interest in fighting corruption. None whatsoever. They are all about maintaining the status quo. If anyone gets arrested, they will be very little fish. And it is questionable if they will even be brought to trial, and in the unlikely event that happens, will they be convicted? Only if they are not wealthy, connected, or influential.

 

When was the last time you saw a CURRENT official, Army officer, high ranking policeman, or CEO charged with anything, and convicted? Not on Little P's watch. He does not have it in him. The Thai probe will go nowhere. Why? Nobody in a position of power is interested in this fight.

A very high-ranking policeman, along with most of his family, was charged and convicted, but that was a unique situation, and that's about all that can be said on that matter.

 

I think the policeman who ran for his life to Australia, after investigating the slave trade/mass graves, has probably been charged?

 

Some CEOs have paid paltry fines for insider trading.

 

Obviously a lot of political opponents on the "wrong side" have been charged/convicted; I'm sure they were the only people who committed "crimes"?

Its not stalled because it will never get started
