The other day on one of the threads I saw that someone had opened a foreign currency account at a Thai bank with a currency equivalent of 800,000 baht and this was acceptable for extending his retirement visa. Searched again today but I can't find which thread it was on.

Can anyone provide further details if this is allowable, and is so, which immigration office(s) accept foreign deposits, which banks can you open a foreign deposit account and what do you have to provide to immigration- ie does the bank have to write a letter you have XXX USD which are equivalent to XXX Thai baht?

thanks

I have a US Dollar saving account at HSBC and will use it for my retirement VISA.

The nice lady there says she will provide me the proper certificate for my Immigration application + Copies of the last 3 Months Bank Statements.

On the Certificate for Immigration, the Bank will state the amount in Thai Baht.

Siam Commercial Bank has offered foreign currency deposit accounts. You probably have to go to the main office or a large branch.

Chiang Mai Immigration has been accepting foreign currency deposit accounts for years but last time I was there with mine was 4 months ago.
