Having been here a number of years under a type "O" 1 year marriage visa extension visa I have decided to pack it in and head for greener pastures. My renewal comes due at the end of the month but I do not plan on adding the $6000 at todays low exchange rates to meet the 400,000 baht requirement.

I hope to have all my affairs in order within 3 months (selling items, etc.) but it could possibly run a little longer. Five months would likely be the outside longest I would need before heading out.

Can someone please tell me what kind of visa I will need to get and where I should go to get it in order to meet my time frame? I am still married and am over 50 if that helps.

I appreciate your input.

If you are a USA passport holder and over 50, you should be able to apply and receive a one year extension of stay based on retirement.

You need to get a letter from your Embassy confirming 65.000 baht per month or equivalent income. immigration also wants to see some original papers proving that income.

Application form, picture, bank book and copy, bank balance letter (no minimum amount) and passport should do.

Extension is granted on the spot

Good luck

You should be able to obtain a single entry non immigrant O visa at any Consulate to provide you a 90 day stay and another or tourist or border runs to cover any additional time. You will require marriage certificate and copy of wife ID card at most Consulates to obtain the non immigrant visa.
