Emergency Treatment Card?

Featured Replies

A group of three friends including me are thinking about the detail of writing wills. Another topic came up. My friends both have a medical insurance card. I would prefer not to buy medical insurance, but cover myself.

I wonder if anyone can think of an alternative which will ensure the best possible treatment if I am picked up unconscious somewhere.

Thankyou

Hi,

As a foreigner you will generally be taken to the better quality hospital as they will assume you can afford it, as opposed to a gov. hospital. I confirmed this with the ambulance men at my hospital. If you have a particular hospital you prefer you should get their hospital ID card and keep it prominent in your wallet-if the police see this they will direct you there. Also inform your friends of those wishes, and make them aware you will have the necessary funds available to reimburse them.....unfortunately, private hospitals will get nervouse about bills as they mount for an uninsured patient with no payment guarantors.

I don't know your age/circumstances but you may reconsider buying insurance. It is quite resonable here but up to you....

:o Have a tatoo done on your chest of your visa card.....................
