BANGKOK: -- A video of western man serving customers at a restaurant in Bangkok’s Chinatown has gone viral.

The clip was shared to the YouLike page by Facebook user Supornchai Sripan on Monday.

Thais commenting on the video praised the restaurant for hiring a foreigner, saying it would help to attract other foreigners to eat at the restaurant.

Another comment questioned what all the fuss was about, saying they see lots of foreigners, such as Cambodians and Burmese people working in restaurants all over Thailand.

Others wondered why the foreign man wanted to work in a restaurant in Thailand given that the job is likely to only come with a small salary.

has the squad of 50 cops to arrest him showed up yet?

They are on their way now in armoured vehicles. Taken a little time to put on their full combat gear and bullet proof vests and load their automatic weapons. Just as they did when thy raided the oldies bridge game in Pattaya.

It will take a while to roundup the 50 cops as most are at traffic checkpoints around the country collecting donations.   Plus they will want to ensure all the media is available for this high profile, dangerous arrest.

I've watched the streets of Chinatown for many weeks....you rarely see a farang there mate.

And the ones you do see are watching their cellphones for google maps but even that doesn't work properly cause you can't download a free map of Bangkok....You can download loads of offline maps but not in Thailand.

BKK needs many more farang waiters, the dumb waiters is the reason i won't eat in many restaurants without a Thai friend.

In many western countries it's quite common to see Asians, Africans, etc. working alongside caucasians. Here, I'd also be surprised to see a Caucasian working in a restaurant, but I sure wouldn't record it.

He should button up his shirt a little more.

In Europe we have streetvendors with all kinds of foreign streetfood and that's great!

They are part of our culture and we all love to eat from them while on the go...

I still remember the day the first vietnamese lumpiashop opened in my hometown, there were very long qeueu's since we all wanted to try them...they had sweet chilisauce which was new for us, we only new the spicy one which was too spicy.

I'm not sure you know quite what a 'dumb waiter' is

Clue - it isn't an unintelligent or someone who can't speak person working in a restaurant ...

Or attending photo ops with drug lords and immigration officials.

If you were to meet "Somchai" who works as a waiter in our local noodle shop it would change your understanding & terminology of this "statement" - believe me!  :shock1:

Even when my wife orders the food more than half of the times something goes wrong with our order. Even when i ask something in Thai (like for a knife or so) they reply to my wife and i'm invisible for them. They also don't know the difference between a butterknife or a steakknife.  They like to stand in the way, make a lot of noise with collecting plates/dishes, can't speak english of course, put my food at the other end of the table, don't make sure i have all condiments like pepper/salt/sauces..and so on...That's what i call dumb waiters, totally untrained and have never been to a real restaurant themselves.
