Not sure if anyone else out there is noticing the absolute JUNK that some big companies ( well thought of in Europe USA)  are selling here in Thailand.

I will name two of the worst culprits i have came across - deleted>

Both major brands seem to just put out 3rd rate junk here, is it because they can get away with it?

I have an <Deleted> toasted sandwich maker - give it a wipe with a damp cloth when it is switched on and all of the screen / pad printing of the brand and model just wipes off! What crap!

we have a blender / chilli grinder, the chilli grinder lasted less than a week and the plastic mounts for the blades melted and it seized...and also it too had the logo / brand name come off when wiped with soapy water.

What utter junk!

Did you ever consider that perhaps you bought copies made in Thailand or China?

No, not really, both were bought at Tesco Lotus. When i was involved in manufacturing in CHINA - we actually did abrasion tests on things like logos, so don't just assume that anything made in China is rubbish, a lot of companies manufacturing in China put a lot of effort into making sure that their products are better than you would expect.

I suppose the required standards that need to be met are a lot lower here than in Europe, USA etc, so possibly not the same products are marketed here.

Just remember, they don't throw the rejects out.  They send them to customers who don't do that diligence.

I spent years doing QA in Chinese factories, and every component that I rejected for our products eventually went into products built for customers who didn't have someone doing what I did.

I have always thought that there were a few levels of quality  on things coming out of China ,

many things that are $50 in the west would never sell if priced  the same in  3rd world countries,

but there is a demand for the item at $30 , so corners need to be cut !

There was a show on NHK Japanese TV about Super Copies from China where even the original company had a hard time picking their own product.......

My  Dutch friend only buys power tools from Europe as even Bosch etc make a cheaper style to sell in Thailand etc.....

6) You will not post comments that could be reasonably construed as defamation or libel.

Defamation is the issuance of a statement about another person or business which causes that person to suffer harm. It does not have to be false to be defamatory. Libel is when the defamatory statement is published either in a drawing, painting, cinematography, film, picture or letters made visible by any means, or any other recording instruments, recording picture or letters, or by broadcasting or spreading picture, or by propagation by any other means. Defamation is both a civil and criminal charge in Thailand.

If you check serial numbers in many cases it turns out there are specific versions of same unit er. TV, but marked for TH, PH or similar Asian locations. That could be due to specific electronic specifications but could also have quality level acceptance factors. Computer chip makers have similar approach to grading chip performance levels and mark the better ones for higher performance and higher pricing levels.

amazing…how do people complain about crappy products then?

This isn't a moderation related question…just a query.

It is also true for clothes.

I quit buying the one with a crocodile because their polo sold in Thailand are 100% crap compared to the ones sold in the west.

Cleaning products too. Just compare locally available dishwashing liquid to that available in Europe/USA. Even products from the same brand name. Electrical tape from the famous brand is sold here as a full roll (local) or as a half sized roll (imported) One has cheaper adhesive and is thinner. The real imported product performs as you'd expect. The simple fact is that if these companies offered their product at Western quality levels their price point would put them beyond what the average local could afford ( or want to spend)

Gardening tools are another example along with hand tools, drill bits and flashlights.. Plus with very poor consumer protection in place the product doesn't even have to do what it claims it can.

All Krap Khrup !

BS eh? I posted on here a while back about a company knowingly and deliberately selling fakes as the real deal the thread was taken down within the hour. I could understand defamation if something is a false statement but when its true making defamation is absurd. Much like most things in Thailand.
