ADMINISTRATIVE COURT RULES PROTECTION AGAINST GOVERNMENT ORDERS IS NOT NECESSARY AS NO ASSETS CONFISCATED

 

FORMER COMMERCE Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom and four other figures facing a combined Bt20-billion-plus in civil compensation lawsuits over the alleged fake government-to-government rice deals have failed to obtain a court injunction against a government order to proceed with the controversial moves.

 

The Central Administrative Court yesterday said in a statement that a temporary legal protection against the government’s order was unnecessary because there was no proceeding to freeze or confiscate the defendants’ assets, so no damage had occurred.

The court misunderstood this lawsuit.

 

The defendants wanted protection from the government lodging a lawsuit against them, not about freezing or confiscation of their assets.

Civil liability cases being prepared against Boonsong and five others

BANGKOK: -- The Commerce Ministry’s Department of Foreign Trade is preparing to forward to the Department of Legal Execution next week |civil liability cases against former commerce minister Boonsong Teriyapirom and five others in the “fake” government-to-government rice deals, according to Lt-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd, the government spokesman.

 

Boonsong, deputy commerce minister Poom Sarapol and other former senior commerce officials are facing massive compensation lawsuits worth a combined Bt20 billion for their role in bogus government-to-government rice contracts during the tenure of former premier Yingluck Shinawatra when her government implemented the rice-pledging scheme, which cost the state more than Bt500 billion.
