Really need some help, very confused new to travelling I'm in thailand till June the 24th I'm hoping to go to Cambodia for 2 weeks. I don't know whether I need to fly or go by bus as I've already crossed the boarder once to renew my visa by bus. Using up 1 of my boarder crossing allowances, Is it still only 2 entries through land border?

I hope this makes sense. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Thank you

You can only do two visa exempt entries per calendar at a land border crossing.

If you have done one already since January 1st you can only do one more this year.

You could get a 30 day extension of your visa exempt entry at a immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

Perhaps you should consider getting a single entry tourist visa from a nearby embassy or consulate that are free at this time.

It sounds as though you entered Thailand without a Visa. (Visa exempt).

Land border crossings are restricted to two per year.

No problems by air.

If you intend to stay until June you should consider getting a Tourist Visa which will give you a 60 day permission to stay.

You can extend that by 30 days at local Immigration.

i got a visa exempt when i crossed the boarder at laos, i'm living in phanomphrai and hoping to get a visa extension in roi-et

where do i get a 60 day tourist visa when i'm back in bangkok?

Where you get a TV depends on your location.

You haven't unfortunately informed us of your planned itinerary.

You should get a 30 day extension at Roi Et.

Currently your nearest location for a TV would be Savannakhet.

One more border crossing with a 30 day extension isn't going to take you up to June.

i am in phanomphrai.... i am asking about a TV when im back in bangkok, I've said i'm travelling to Cambodia for 2 weeks, possible for a month now, i know a boarder crossing and an extension will not take me to June. that is why i am asking for help,  if i fly it doesn't count as crossing the boarder so i can do that as many times as possible is what i have been told, i am asking if this 2 land boarder visa exemption is still in place

Yes they are.

The period for issuing free TV's has been extended until August 2017.

You could get a TV before re-entering from Cambodia, that would leave you one land border crossing option when in Bangkok.

There are no border crossing restrictions by air.

brilliant! thank you, do you still have to show 20.000 baht in your account and plane ticket home? or will i end up with a visa exempt 30 day one again?

wouldn't it be better to get one after i come back so that i have longer? i'm not sure what you mean by doing that, do i apply one for the date i'm back? is that what you mean?

if ur going to be in Cambodia for 2 weeks just get a FREE 60day tourist visa and not bother with the visa exempt

than u can extend that and get 90days in country for only 1,900 baht

thank you, where do i get one from? the rules last time i went to get a tourist visa (when it was free) were 1. have 20.000 baht in an account 2. have a plane ticket back home, are these still the rules? as i might not have 20.000 baht in an account meaning i will just have the visa exempt that i can extend.

You need to get the visa from a neighboring country, you cannot get a visa in Thailand, at savannakhet you are required to have financial proof and a flight ticket, I don't think you require them in Vientiane though, not too sure about the rules in Cambodia, I would imagine if you had to show the proof before then you will still have to show proof

According to the embassy website you require proof but someone with more experience of Cambodia may answer for sure soon

That appears to be US dollars not baht. If you had a Thai bank account they would probably accept a balance of 20k baht in it.

well <deleted>, what happens if i don't have 20.000 baht? does that mean i have to do the visa exempt again?

Use an  ANY agent in Cambodia, even thou the visa is free they will charge you $10-15,wont require a flight or hotels or show any money

by law they can ask for 10,000 BAHT /person or 20,000 baht/family when u fly in bt 99.9% they wont ask unless u look like ur broke.

If you enter Thailand via land or air without a valid visa then the immigration officer has the right to ask you for proof that you have the means to sustain your stay in the country and onward travel.

as mentioned before though I think you would be very unlucky to be asked.

As mentioned before easiest way would be to use an agent in Cambodia then you should get a tourist visa no problem.

if you are going to be there for 2 weeks to a month anyway then you should have plenty time to sort something out.

The Phnom Penh Embassy website only states funds of 20,000 baht, not necessarily in a Thai bank.

That could be cash in your pocket.

I'm assuming your withdrawing funds from an ATM using a UK debit card.

If your living on funds from a Thai bank a/c and you haven't got 20,000 baht in it, how do you expect to survive until June.

OP if you could publish your itinerary it would be most useful.

So far you plan a trip to Cambodia in March, returning April?

When did you enter Thailand?

When did you do your last border run?

You want to know the best options available to remain in Thailand until 24th June.

If traveling between Thailand and Cambodia - Rule #1 - do NOT use the Poipet / Aranyaprathet border crossing.

I used an agent in Cambodia, and was required to show money or a flight every time (even my first visa in Cambodia) - and was told minimum $1000 USD (even though the rules should be only 20K Baht / <$700).  A report more recent than my visit indicated that if they see recent activity in Thailand in your passport, they now want to see both cash and a flight out.   And not cash at Thai-Consulates (anywhere) - recent reports indicate they want to see bank-statements.

But, at the border (or airport), you may ALSO need to show 20K Baht In Cash with a Tourist Visa - and they will not let you go to an ATM to get it, nor will they accept a Bank statement or ATM slip as proof.  If denied entry, they force you to book a flight out, and hold you in custody until it leaves.  We have a report from someone coming in With a Valid Tourist Visa who was booted for not having this.  It usually not asked to show, but sometimes it is - and you don't want to be "that person" whose plans are wrecked.

If arriving by air for visa-exempt, be especially sure to have 20K Baht in cash (the rules say 10K Baht, but...), as the chance of being asked to show it is much higher.   Personally, I would never fly in Visa-Exempt, because I have a history of traveling/staying here, and do not want my plans dashed.

If you cannot show 20K Baht, in cash upon entry, they really don't want you here.  I am not saying that to be cruel - I just would be sad to read a post of another ruined experience.  This is just how Immigration has behaved, in recent years.  The official reason is to prevent people working-illegally from coming in as Tourists and taking Thai jobs.

I would suggest you try Vientiane for a Thai Visa (not Savanakhet, anymore) - even if it is a special trip - as it is one of the last nearby locations which is still not requiring either a flight or bank-statement.  And keep an eye on this forum, as that could change at any time.
