<deleted> is it With TV Posters in Vehicle Classifieds?

Why have all the foreigners here suddenly lost their minds when trying to sell cars or bikes here? They seem to think that just because this is La La land that all the other foreigners here are going to leave their brains behind.

Why on earth would any sane person buy a SECONDHAND car or bike for about 10% less than the new price?

You can see these idiots queing up on TV Classifieds... "FARANG OWNED" ..."FARANG MAINTAINED"   like that means diddly shit!

They don't seem to realize, it is SECOND HAND,,,,so stop trying to drop the new price by 10%, drop it by 50% THEN YOU MIGHT ACTUALLY SELL IT!!! -

(You will see the same posters and their same adds week after week after week and no one buying, they live in Thai Cuckoo land!)

That's pretty much the case throughout the Kingdom, irrespective of the seller's race.

When I wanted to but a motorbike, I thought about getting a secondhand one (from a Thai) but the prices were so close to new prices, I just bought a brand new bike.

That's the market here. I don't understand it either.

It's the same here in Greece. They still want big bucks for a 20 year old car with 200,000 Km on the clock, even though new cars aren't much more expensive (maybe 10%) than in the UK. A secondhand car I would expect to pay £1000 for in UK will be priced at €3,500 - €4,000 here. I don't understand it. But the most infuriating thing (and this doesn't apply just to cars, but also to apartments for rent etc) is that they almost never put the price in the ad! It's insane.

What is it with people complaining about the price of things?... If you don't like the price, walk away and look for a better deal - there's no need to insult the seller. A higher price indicates to me the seller is not desperate, or perhaps he's feeling the market.

The seller will drop the price in due time if he cannot find a buyer. If he's asking for a price 10% lower than new, maybe he will still settle for 20 - 25% lower.

20% Down each year compared to the year before that's the thumb rule i use ....

So you expect a car to be 50% cheaper than new after 3 years, 33% of new price in 5 years, 25% in 6 years, and 10% in 10 years... and then virtually free a few more years down the track.

That's a very unrealistic rule of thumb.

im gonna  disagree in some respects, firstly "service history" my pick ups  done about 135000km and has every "Toyota" service slip for that time ( and every 6000km its a lot of paper trail) from a  main dealer............now if I was  looking to buy secondhand ( which Im not) Id  be  looking for that and also the physical condition of the car.

For many Thais Maintenance is totally unimportant......theyll spend money cleaning it if your e lucky but thats  all

Same goes for property. They buy a villa for about 4 million about 10 years ago, do the minimum of embellishments, say half million tops, don't do any running repairs, maintenance or upgrades on the place (original air conditioning, water pumps, and old fashioned furnishings, etc.,) while the home-owners association lets the whole village crumble and collapse and the communal pool looks like a failed lab experiment. Then they stick it in the classifieds for 8 million.

Sometimes people  not only farangs ask stupid prices for things.

There is a house in the next village built by a Norwegian man, been up forsale over 2 years.

Looking at it i would say it is worth around 3 million baht.

It has been on the market for 6 million, recently big C opened a store nearby.

Now asking price is 7 million baht !! HUH !! CRAZY OR WHAT.

Dear OP. Farang maintained means the oil in the engine is not the oil that came with the car when new.
Will agree with you on the high price of cars both new and used compared with places like the US. A Nissan Tida/Versa is 50% higher here. That and cheap labor and parts are probably what keeps used car prices high.
With that said I would always look at farang maintained vehicle first due to accomplishing routine maintenance.

It's frustrating, but cars are expensive here because of the taxation system, most are bought through higher purchase financing (upping the outlay), the cheap maintenance thing, and (a real biggie) that locals hate to give anything away. Farang sellers are simply getting on the bandwagon. Regards UK, it's not so much secondhand cars being expensive here as being ridiculously cheap in Blighty. No-one wants an old car there, labour is silly expensive and their are also annual tax incentives on newer vehicles.

I suggest you look at the  treatment of vehicle depreciation on western income tax forms.

The approach isn't that far off.

I am not at the selling side. Btw. I never buy something older then 2 years, at 65% of the new price. Take it or leave it.

Can't speak for all Thais but generally farang owned means regular scheduled services, tyres inflated to correct pressures, all fluids changed regularly, tyres rotated possible upgrades to brakes suspension and things that matter not big wheel. As for the prices that's just the market older cars hold there value much better it seems than in other countries can't explain but there ya go. Honestly but if the classifieds give ya the shits that much why read them? Seems like your air raiding over something you have zero control over so why worry bout it?

Then why not offer a person asking for a 10% drop, something like 20 - 25% or more off. The worst that can happen is he can say no or make a counter offer. Certainly, as a seller, you shouldn't start too low. In most negotiations the seller and buyer like to walk away feeling good about the deal.

I tell you how to understand ok

thais have no money as you should know by now , so if the  Second hand car is 100,000 cheaper then the new price they will buy it and save the 100,000 .

that is 10% off the new car price on a  Worth one million bht .

and the western try's to sell at that price.

the car from the western should be well look after you would think, as Thais do  Service  Their cars a lot .

i am the same if I sell my car I need thailand I want top money for it ,because it is like new and I take great care of it .

i would never sell it for 50% cheaper then the new price like the op says , that is bs , thailand is not like the west.

yes many cars but not a lot of  Second hand cars  Here .
