Questions raised over frequent absence of 7 members of parliament

BANGKOK, 15 February 2017 (NNT) - Seven members of the National Legislation Assembly (NLA) are now under scrutiny for their frequent absences from weekly sittings, while the NLA chief has affirmed that their absences were in accordance with parliamentary rules.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has called for a thorough investigation, stressing that all NLA members must comply with parliamentary attendance rules. Among the 7 members in question is Gen Preecha Chan-o-cha, the younger brother of the Prime Minister.

Another member is Secretary-General of the Office of the Council of State Distat Hotrakitya who acknowledged that holding two positions at the same time has resulted in the need of absence from his legislative duties. He affirmed that he had always submitted notifications of his absences according to parliamentary rules.

In response to the criticism, NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai said the 7 lawmakers had submitted proper notifications of absence due to reasons of sickness, government duties, and committee meetings. He then affirmed the body's stringency in considering all notifications of absence.

Gen Preecha Chan-o-cha

Maybe his brother knows where the rubber stamp is kept.

Why show up for something that has already been decided ?  It is a waste of time.  He is the smart one in the family.

The problem here is not that they are abscent from the meetings, because they can have a reason according to the rules to leave a notice.

The problem is that the same 7 persons are abscent too much or regulary, for which there are appearently no rules.

That makes them persons that only taking advantage of getting a payed position without doing their work, which is a way of getting payed for something you don´t have the time to fullfill your duty for.

Probably the only interesting and facts based comment so far, that is not trying to make a joke out of something important.

Many of the posters live in Thailand. We all understand that posting anything critical of Prayuth, his brother, the army, the police, the courts, the prosecutors, the entire present government or other things that we don't know about, could result in a lengthy prison sentence or deportation. Therefore, humour, half sentences, guarded comments, sarcasm, veeerrryy carefully worded comments are the best we can do for those of us that dare to comment at all.

Patience and a lot of reading between the lines is recommended.

So keeping to the topic and dicussion it is appearently out of the question. I thought that was more daring. If the news is in TV, and not locked for further comments, it´s probably something that can be discussed.
I can not understand. If all the negative posts are out of that reason, there must be hell on earth for most of the posters to really live here. Just maybe you are only posting out of your own way of thinking and believing, and not like you try to proclaim with the expression "we".

I stand corrected. Please change we for I.

But I in fact see that all topics about government and Co that are not locked have very few comments these days. Whereas in the past all governmental topics would have comments in the hundreds. Especially topics in regard to family members failures, misdemeanours in office or out. It is my personal analysis that people only joke or comments are down or short guarded comments are due to fear. Especially when commenting on the pm brother and sons. So get real, if you have a better explaination of why government topics have all but dried up do tell. ...
