February 17, 20179 yr Wondering if anyone knows the protocol for toll booths in Bangkok? Other than speed pass and no speed pass. We were harassed again by the same police officer as a previous time who this time told me i should be in Lane 6. Are there guidelines? If so where can i read about themSent from my GT-I9500 using Thaivisa Connect mobile app
February 18, 20179 yr Which toll plaza was this? I don't believe there are any restrictions, certainly not at the plazas I use regularly. Get in the shortest queue, have money ready, pay, drive on. I have an EasyPass, not difficult to get and you can re-load it online (certainly from Bangkok Bank), also now works on the Mpass lanes too. "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
February 18, 20179 yr A common police scam at toll booths is to say you are in the wrong lane or you changed lanes and broke a solid line. Get a dash cam film the policeman.

Get a dash cam film the policeman. which is bloody hysterical as the "painted" lines on the road have been long worn away......you can get this a lot where Phetkasem Road joins the tollway to go around BKK and on to Pattaya if heading up from Hua Hin on highway 4
February 18, 20179 yr AFAIR lanes 1 and 2 are for trucks and buses though pickup trucks can use them. The Easy Pass lane (s) are self explanatory and the rest are for the common oiks like us. The really HiSo usually have a police escort anyway.

February 18, 20179 yr Quote Wondering if anyone knows the protocol for toll booths in Bangkok? From as far away as possible pick a lane, head towards it and stay in lane. If you join the locals weaving all over the place be prepared for what you have experienced. Solid lines are solid lines. If you commute and use the same two or three booths everyday you will know which one are quickest, generally so simply head for them. Coming back into town from the airport is a case in point as there are two lanes on the far right for cars coming from Rama 9. But you can still use them if coming from the motorway. The use of solid white lines is becoming more prevalent on expressways at entrances and exits.. Some are even accompanied by warnings of traffic cameras, so cross them at your own peril. EasyPass website is here http://www.thaieasypass.com/etcsite/ You can register and get the beasties at one of the places displaying the EasyPass sign, usually located just after the toll booths, with minimal parking. You'll need the vehicle registration and your ID. There's a deposit for the on-board-unit, but I forget how much it was. Top up online or by cash at the Top-Up lanes. They eliminated the deposit for the kit a couple of years ago, so there's little impediment to getting an Easy Pass. Well worth it if you use the expressway often - saves me up to 2 minutes a day, which adds up to an amazing 10 hours a year.
