Mm your village !you own it?  I have been in thailand well over 2 decades and this word farang/falang has been used in millions of cases twds me by Thais no problem it's there language. Never has another forigner whilst out and about refered to me as a farang/falang in the well over 2 decades untill I would say a year ago whilst out having a meal. When some baffon two tables away shouted over hey look another farang. I of course ignored the person. When he then deemed it nessasary to try and strike up a conversation still two tables away. In the end I just looked at him opened my arms giving the I have no idea what your talking about look and talked to him in Thai. He soon shut up. 

So please all you, you'll get used to it people or the once you've been here long enough people. I won't get used to another forigner using the word twds me and I've been here long enough thank you.

Lighten up,felang, its just a term.I call guys from Liverpool,scousers and guys from Birmingham,  brummies,etc,They sometimes call me a cockney,but its in fun.There is no insult. If there is an expletive, before or after,then, you may have a problem.

Get used to it felang, 'cos your going to hear it a lot.

If this sort of thing bothers you, you arent going to last long.

Just for you.....The speech at the ceremony is mainly done by a farang in English...It is a Service put together by Thai folk to show RESPECT to the farang fallen...Now if YOU cannot understand that and my point about the "farang" word then I feel sorry for you...

To me I think it is  disrespectful that is how I see , you can see how you like .

it is  a made up world .

Oh please., I have attended university seminars in which well-educated Thais have used the word farang. Furthermore, do you actually believe the Thais have no idea about racism? Remember, racism does not just refer to one of the three basic races, it also refers to one's ethnicity and may even be extended to nationality, social status, or religion.

 

White, Westerner, European, American can also be racist terms, given a racist context.  A term to differentiate the races does not have to be racist in itself, it more depends upon its use and intent. While I am sure farang can be a racist term if used that way, but so is Brit, or Yank; yet each can be used without prejudice. I doubt one farang would use the term farang as a racist insult to another farang--they would more likely use Limey or Yank wouldn't they?  I think you farang-shy farangs need to get a grip.

George get off your high horse. The word Farang is colloquial. It is no different to calling an American a Yank. Which most of the world does and is not meant as any form of disrespect
