I guess it's useless if your in denial of Tourism increasing and it suits your agenda. Other than that,  I will run all future posts by you first for approval in front of the TVF bureau for Tourism if you need it?

I wonder if there is something to be learned here from Las Vegas. I'm certainly not an expert on the topic and I would love to hear from someone who knows the details, but I believe that LV had an analogous situation. It was the capital of naughtiness in the USA and making incredible amounts of money for its investors (the locals are a different story of course). But then the powers looked at their golden goose and thought "but we're only attracting single adult males. We could double our profits if we could somehow attract females as well. No, wait! What if we attracted whole FAMILIES? My God! How could we even store all the money we'll be making!"

And so they set out to change their image.

But a funny thing happened on the way to the bank: Families didn't come. Few people wanted to bring their kids to a place with a reputation like LAS VEGAS. And the incoming numbers of single men dropped since the main reason they were coming was now disappearing.

So after a few years of this failure the founding fathers looked around and decided to go back to the good old days and now the city advertises on national television that "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas".

And the money machine started to come back to life.

Mightn't Thailand do better by building a new family destination city down the road and keep the cash flowing from the existing one rather than killing of a HUGE moneymaking enterprise to make way for one that they only hope will be better? Wouldn't that be closer to having one's cake and eating it too?

How about we learn from someone else's experience for a change?

Tourism is shot to pieces...Finished, over. Look how dead suvarnabhumi airport was last night at 22.30 with people complaining about the time taking to clear immigration. The TVF  Tourist Planning committee needs a new plan!

As I keep saying we will see. Why wouldn't they want a nice casino on a prime waterfront location close to other established venues. We will see

Mainly because Pattaya is fully built up and lacks the proper infrastructure.Jomtien on the other hand has wide roads and has enough empty waterfront land plots available.Going out to the casino testing your luck ,diner and entertainment shows would be a nice change from what is offered on Walking Street its mostly for the youth.I know where i would spend my night out on the town!

Isn't it the usual post holiday season exodus, with Chinese New Year done etc etc, giving us a breather till songkran holidays, when they come back for a couple of weeks?

You might not... but it's an option now, with less tourists about... that's a good thing in my book, as I prefer to stay at home, when the loonies are abroad.

Nah from 8am suk road is congested due to the goddamn tourist coaches. venturing as far as foodland is enough for me. if I want to watch a movie I'll steal it from the internet.

I can't wait for them to destroy soi 6 , that would be a lot of fun to watch . It will happen before the year is over.

Maybe it's because  to enjoying Soi 6  you require 3 basic things

there are more ,  but we won't go into that  on an open forum.

What you require is

Money,     a sense of humour and an open mind.

Only having one  of these won't cut it.:giggle:

I'd tweak that using MoSCoW rankings...

Must - have money
Should - have an Open Mind
Could - have a sense of humour
Would - have a great time

Come on now open mind yes

Sense of humour well of course

Must have money no not needed if you just walk down and take in the views. Do it many times with the wife after going to sauna at top of soil 6. She thinks it's great fun and the sauna!. Let's face it it is what it is so I 6/7/8 all meant to tempt you but if you have the way of it all you can enjoy it for what it is. People who don't like the scene well that's easy don't go down the soi'so plenty of other routes to choose.

Stil l it would be fun to see a change in Pattaya and scare the shit out of some people .  Just for fun , we know it will be back to usual another day - Remove Soi 6 and another soi will take over.

Just a lttle bit tired of that comment. Something that you guys here is going to continue with long after they start a try for change. Just because you like to bash on the RTP. Seems there is many that have nothing else to do here.

Wake up mate . The RTP "bash" on themselves without any help .

Biggest clean up needed is the rubbish in Pattaya ( and Thailand ) . I went to,Pattaya on a very infrequent trip 2 weeks ago. The beach is a total disgrace. Rubbish everywhere. What is it with Thais that they have no respect for the environment that they earn money from?

Having been here over 10 years now, i have come to the conclusion that Thais are born with an Anti-Rubbish Gene. They do not see it.

Because whatever lifestyle you want, Pattaya has it (within reason). Live as cheaply or as expensively as you want. Eat whatever cuisine you want. Wider range of affordable bars, restaurants and caffs than anywhere in Thailand.  Wide range of shopping. Live as quietly or as busily as you want. Social life does not have to be alcohol or sex related, plenty of darts, quiz, pool leagues etc. (Sorry no opera). Not the best beaches in the world but they are beaches. English widely spoken so minimal communication problems. Convenient for Bangkok and Suvarnabhumi. No need for a car if you live downtown, can be a mild irritant if you don't.

Take down the bars as go betweens for the girl and customers and you'll have the streets and hotel lobbies even more crowded with independents working that run like mice when the law enforcers show up. We had it in Washington DC and called it a game of "cops and hoes", the cops come and the hoes run.
Also it will push the women further to online hookups which is easy to do and hard to enforce.
