National police chief: Phra Dhammajayo will be arrested

 

BANGKOK, 22 February 2017 (NNT) - Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police Pol.Gen. Chakthip Chaichinda has expressed confidence that the government will be able to arrest Phra Dhammajayo with the use of Section 44 of the interim charter. He warned Wat Phra Dhammakaya not to use the social media to distort the facts. 

Deputy Commander of the Metropolitan Police Region 1 Pol.Maj.Gen. Sombat Milinthachinda on Tuesday inspected the police’s operation at Gate 7 of Wat Phra Dhammakaya. He said so far there had been no third party trying to enter the temple and the officers assessed the situation every day in order to adjust a security plan. The deputy commander said he believed that there would be no third party to create chaos since the officers strictly screened people who were going in and out of the temple. 

Meanwhile, Pol.Gen. Chakthip said Phra Dhammajayo--the former abbot of the temple--would be arrested but no violence would be used against him. He confirmed the officers did not carry weapons and called the media to be fair to the officers.
