BANGKOK: -- PHEU Thai Party member Watana Muangsook said yesterday he had been “invited” by a military officer for a meeting at the 1st Army Area today to answer some “queries”.

“Expressing opinion is a right under the charter. So the junta, or whoever, has no right to detain me,” Watana, who has been detained four times by the military, said on his Facebook page.

“I hope the queries will not take long,” he added.

The former Cabinet minister was held in April last year for allegedly violating an agreement with the ruling junta that he would not carry out political activities, after posting critical remarks on Facebook. He was later released on bail.

In an ideal world, these "meetings" would be held in a public forum, with the public able to attend and the press able to cover the proceedings.

Hiding behind a "green" veil would be cause for most intelligent people.

There is reason galore to have a word with him.

See how he tries to incite unrest by making this invitation public.

Watana reports to the military over sensitive comment on suicide

BANGKOK: -- Former social development and human security minister Watana Muangsook today reported himself to the military after he posted condolence message to mourn the death of a man who hanged himself to death to protest the enforcement of Section 44.

Watana said he still did not exactly know if what he posted on his Facebook page expressing regret over the sacrifice of Anawat Tanacharoenrat would be a main reason.

He said he posted comments on several issues including politics, reconciliation, and Dhammakaya and Section 44 and didn’t know what particular issue that forced the military junta to “invite” him to the First Army Region’s 21st Infantry Regiment  headquarters for clarification.

Yes, shame on him for going public with this! How dare he inform the public about this invitation for a friendly cup of coffee. There's nothing ominous about this at all....move along....nothing to see.

The junta, obviously.

Doh.

Who actually cares whether this old PTP crony is called in or not?

Maybe his family, cronies. But the public - doubt they're interested anymore.

Too bad the public isn't allowed to express their opinions then so we could have had your theory tested.

Indeed. But given the response to the "Beat the war drum" meeting when few turned up when PTP were still clinging to power and the red shirts non elected appointed leaders were trying to orchestrate a show of force, I doubt that would make the slightest difference.

Make a difference to what? Restoring basic human rights?

More like taking out insurance by letting people know where he is.

Wrong again. Make a difference to anyone bothering to act in anyway in reaction to this guy.

PS - you can't restore something that never existed.

PPS - wonder if all those murdered in the war on drugs, or disappeared activists had any human rights? Seemingly not.

Interpretation. Don't do any real thinking leave the thinking to us. Go home and play now.

Well, the junta apparently disagrees with you.

To your PS: The junta has taken away several basic rights, e.g. the right to assembly, freedom of expression etc. Claiming that the situation for human rights has not taken a turn for the worse under the junta is plainly not supported by facts.

To your PPS: True, and the people behind it should be punished, from Thaksin and down to the guys pulling the triggers. Unfortunately that will never happen as the wealthy and connected still enjoy a near total freedom of responsibility for their actions, despite the constant jabbering from the junta about how they want to change things.

Funny though how the war on drugs is probably the only thing done by Thaksin that has not been criticized by the junta and their allies.

Do you know what's being discussed? The point I make is I doubt that most people, the great unwashed as we are, actually give a monkeys. Apart from the clan.

The junta have stopped certain things, whereas before doing those things got you killed, assaulted, intimated etc. Not sure allowing those with different views to be assaulted and murdered whilst telling them to go home it's dangerous counts as supporting freedom of expression, right to assembly etc. Or prosecuting people for publishing cartoons you don't like.

PTP were always jabbering about change, so was Abhisit, and Trump, Merkel, May,  etc. Seems a fad for politicians. But not much really does.

Please do not include the British Prime Minister in your biased rant.

And I say that you're completely missing the point. The point is not whether one, ten or 100,000 give a rodent's behind what happens to Watana, it's that the junta are still using their unlimited, self given powers (and let's not forget their whopper of an amnesty) to intimidate and silence political opponents.

THAT'S what this is about.
