Once again, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha on Tuesday stressed that his superpower by the interim charter’s Article 44 needs to be enforced to facilitate authority forces to effectively control Dhammakaya Temple and its surroundings.

His comment came after an urging statement by the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies (IHRP) calling for Prayut and his junta government to stop using such absolute power, considered by the IHRP to lack check-and-balance principle and not go by rules of law.

It may give him immunity in Thailand but wont protect him under international law and lets hope one day he stands trial in an International court for abuses against human rights.

Lets see how much protection his Article 44 gives him then.

Duerte and Thaksin were both elected. Im sure the former is on the radar of the UN and as for Thaksin time will tell but he does semm to have more freedom and respect internationally than the current clowns in charge.

What is the obsession with Thaksin by all the coup sympathisers. Hasnt been in the country for 10 years yet still stalking the consciences of the inept.

People who have anything whatsoever to do with the importation, distribution and selling of drugs are no more that murderers because that is what the vast majority of these drugs have the potential to do and fact do do. Duerte and Thaksin by taking out this peddlers of death are/were doing the world a favour.  May not have been the correct process of doing so by the opinion of the general "do-gooders" on this forum and elsewhere, but at least it was a start.

These 2 gentleman , far from being criticised should possibly be nominated for a nobel prize for services to humanity.

If you think drugs are a problem you must educate people to curb their demand. Dealers are just responding to the market, I have no problem with them because I am not a user.

Article 44 will always be needed to give PM Prayuth legal personal immunity for anything he does.

He has already given himself and his cronies immunity for any past, present or future crimes so article 44 is just the icing on the cake.

It's called obsession. They know he's a darn sight more popular with the people than the current pretender.

Yes I think we can fit him in right after George Bush, Blair and many others.

Specifically with regards the temple situation, what exactly is Section 44 doing that normal laws could not? Under state of emergency or those ilk?

What has the use of Section 44 allowed them to do which otherwise would not have been possible.
