PHITSANULOK: -- Teachers in Phitsanulok have complained to the government's Damrongtham watchdog over a fraudulent loan scheme that has seen them lose 40 million baht.

They alleged the con was perpetrated by an official in charge of a fund for teachers in the northern province. This man - referred to only as Nai Boy - has now fled the area.

Ban Bun Plam school director Samnao Yasut said that he himself had lost 800,000 baht in the scam. He said there were at least 20 other school staff involved.

Must be some good salaries out there

or is it all the money they saved up over the yrs by charging for the extra hour they need to learn after school hrs (which should be enough to learn in ), let alone the weekend hrs at the privately ran tuitions

I'd think their salaries would only cover the house & car, along with every day living

Nai boy may have had inside info as to how the director, teachers and other investors accumulated the funds they invested in the fund he was in charge of and maybe he will come back after he takes care of spending 40 million and clean them out again.

Reminds me of the 2 CM bib sent to bank to collect several million which was destined for division with their work mates back at the station. Never heard any follow up on after they and the funds went missing so do not know if they are across the border gambling, placed in inactive desk, fired, or acknowledged as there is little honor between thieves and were transfered to a different location.

From what I can tell, consumer education and personal finance management aren't big topics in the normal Thai school curriculum.

Bowing and groveling are.

Easy to con people who are greedy, seen something similar happen at a local school around our way and one of wife's friends who is a teacher got stitched up for 300k as part of a group that lost millions.  When the wife asked her why she put money in she said it seemed like a fast way to make loads more money.   The lust for money controls them every minute of their lives here.

Why do you think there are people who travel hundreds of km to pray to a tree or log, armed with talcum powder?
