Youth accused of sex killing a 10 years old girl

A 17-year-old youth was charged yesterday with strangling a girl aged 10 and throwing her body into the Mekong River. Huon Sokheng, a high school dropout from Phnom Penh’s Chroy Changvar district, is accused of killing the girl to cover up an attempted rape.

Chroy Changvar district police officer Meng Sok said Mr. Sokheng lived in the same village as the girl. On Thursday, Mr. Sokheng was riding his motorbike from the village to meet his father who works as a food vendor at a tourist site in the Koh Dach area.

Mr. Sok said Mr. Sokheng met the girl walking alone from school. He asked her to ride on the motorbike and promised to bring her home. Mr. Sokheng allegedly took her to a mango farm. At a quiet spot he stopped and tried to have sex with the girl, but she refused and ran away.
