BANGKOK: -- The Revenue Department (RD) is eyeing on online business, pubs, discotheques, and restaurants to generate more tax income after tax collection this year falling six billion baht short of target.

The move came after its tax collection during the first five months of the year, from October last year till end of February this year, is lower than targeted.

RD Director-general Prasong Poontanet disclosed that tax collection during the first five months of the year is lower than target by 6 billion baht, due majorly to the reduction in petroleum tax after global oil prices fell.

He said as the department has set tax collection target at 1.867 trillion baht by the end of Fiscal 2017, it has to look into other sources to generate income to plug the shortfall.

how about cutting corruption, the countries income could go up by 30%

also how about some slimming of all the state agencies and their multiple boards all taking huge salaries and perks ..........for what

inactive posts - how many now

and does thailand really need submarines - I don't think so

your priorities are all wrong, increasing tax revenue hurts the people, tourism and the country in general, the best approach is start looking at cutting costs - too many fat cats in public office doing absolutely nothing and getting huge salaries and jollies all over the world at the tax payers expense

Just order the police to write fines for traffic offenders...no working vehiclelights, not using indicators, driving against traffic, speeding, driving too slow, parking on roads....it will be better for everybody living in Thailand and sure more safe.

Maybe reduce the number of generals, as I believe Thailand has more generals than USA does. And of course trim number of higher ranking officers under them. That should balance budget in no time

Lol the US have +- 1 million under arms with +- 140 generals and Thailand have +- 220000 with +- 1460 generals.

Corruption is the main reason why Thais don't want to pay tax and will go to extraordinary lengths to not do so, where they can. I believe this government is in a serious financial mess, which may only manifest itself in the coming years.

But corruption is the last thing they'll ever want to clamp down on....

Just make the banks split their take from the rip off ATM's 200 baht per use. 100 baht for the government 100 for the banks.  I would guess 200 million baht / month x 12 = 2.4 billion baht / year. That should take care of part of the problem quite nicely. Of course after all the hand outs were taken care of it would bring it down to a negative number. Then we could raise the ATM fees to 300 / transaction and start over.... hehehe

Hopefully with all the correct documentation, so that the extra revenue goes into the Government's coffers, from which it can then be mis-spent in the usual way on unnecessary toys like submarines.
