Opposition told to change slogan

The ruling CPP has threatened to sue the opposition over their commune election slogan, which asks people to vote for leaders who have the public’s interest at heart instead of one who works only for their party.  The contested slogan, “exchanging commune chiefs who serve their party with commune chiefs who serve the people,” was deemed as an insult by the CPP. 
 

“The Cambodian People’s Party [CPP] demands an immediate correction for the above content in order to maintain a good atmosphere and national peace,” the statement released on Monday night read.  “In cases where it has not been corrected, the CPP reserves the right to file a complaint to the courts in accordance to the law.” 
 

The statement was released after Prime Minister Hun Sen, while speaking at an event, said that the slogan was a “dishonor” as the CPP was being cast as the villain without votes even having been cast.  “Everything [the election results] has yet to be tabulated, but they have already dishonored us.
