BANGKOK — A schoolgirl facially disfigured by a mug thrown at her face by a teacher said she is making good on her pledge to “get her smile back” Thursday.

Naruedee Chotsanthia, a 17-year-old student in Korat, was left with half her face paralyzed by the August incident. Five months of treatment and rehabilitation at a Bangkok hospital has largely returned function to her face, all free of charge.

Great that this girl is getting and responding to treatment.

However....the school denied responsibility, refused any compensation as did the teacher who has not even been charged with anything and is working at another school.

This story has all that is good and sadly all that is disgusting about Thailand.

I hope the girls family get help with a civil case against the teacher.

If i remember correctly the teacher threw the mug at a wall and it ricocheted off into the unfortunate girls face...so unintentional but still someone's responsible for the consequences.

Same logic.

Tonight I was angry, pulled my gun. Shot at my elephant, the round ricocheted and killed.......

Not my fault. Blame the wall.

Since Jonathan Head can't leave the country, maybe he could do a quick story about this for the BBC while he is sitting around.

Human interest stories about very brave girls are always popular.

Maybe we could form a Thai Visa Expat vigilante squad.

Ricochet or not he threw it at her and hit her.

He is unfit to teach.

What he did is assault and if the legal system here functioned in any manner resembling justice he would be facing criminal prosecution.

"but still someone's responsible for the consequences" You think???

Didn´t take Einstein to figure that out, I guess!

No I didn't think it would need an Einstein to work out who I referred to as "someone"

Ok! then you maybe at the same time can explain how it´s unintentional. Like if the mug didn´t hit the girl, never mind?
The teacher has not the right to have that dangerous mental instability.

That just makes your way of expressing this thing very pathetic. Now the "need" is bigger than ever.

Unintentional  as in he didn't intend for the mug to hit the girl in the face and cause her disfigurement...he threw it  unintentional consequences occurred for which the "someone" who did the throwing should take responsibility ...is Einstein still needed to work it out ?

by the way, when I was at school it was a regular occurrence that some frustrated teachers would throw various things at unruly kids

one time I remember being utterly shocked when  a maths teacher went totally berserk literally picked up a pupil (about 10 years old )

and threw him over several rows of desks halfway across the classroom then  a hard slap around before marching the kid off to the headmasters office, I think the kid got suspended for a week  as far as I know nothing happened to the teacher...

in these "more enlighten" times corporal punishment in schools is not allowed..but kids are still unruly and often extremely annoying, enough to test the patience of a saint.

As I said, dangerous mental instability has nothing to do in school. With proper education in social ability and psychology, a teacher has means to use without fysical harm.
If the teacher can´t cope with that, then the place should be vacant.

Nothing has happened to the Teacher Give me a break This person should not be allowed around kids Plain and simple And also charged with assault

This is my point A tourist goes to jail for feeding fish and a Teacher gets off for assaulting a student

This Thai system of justice is totally corrupt in every way

“The hospital and Khun Paveena from her foundation cooperated so that Nong Sai wouldn’t have to pay,” Ratchadaporn said. When Naruedee was injured, her medical expenses were estimated at 300,000 baht.

The school – which backed its teacher’s denial of responsibility – offered to pay only 80,000 baht.

In the end, Chokechaisamakkee School didn’t front any of her medical costs, Ratchadaporn said. Instead, due to petitioning by the Paweena Foundation for Children and Women, Yanhee Hospital treated her for free.

So the school did not pay a single satang... disgusting.

Paweena also said that Naruedee wants to change schools after she recovers, and the foundation will coordinate with the Ministry of Education in order to find her a new school.

Can't blame her at all... who would want to go back to a school that did not support her at all?

Capt. Karn Singchangchai of the Chok Chai police said the case against Paithoon is still ongoing.

Why does it take so long to sort out the case? The evidence is pretty clear.

I'm glad I'm not a parent as I would be in jail for getting justice for my child if a similar event happened.

I guess they don't even vet teachers anymore.

And we wonder why there home schooling is so popular worldwide?

Try reading the article.

They offered 80,000 Baht, although not accepting responsibility.

I did read the article, I guess "In the end, Chokechaisamakkee School didn’t front any of her medical costs" is open to interpretation but their attitude still stinks and the fact such a volatile and unrepentant individual is still teaching is disgusting.

You remember what the teacher said,,,,,,,,richochet???  It was a coffee mug, iot would have shattered first, it hit her directly in the face and  that piece of shit needs his ass kicked, and his face scarred for life, without any hope for plastic surgery  -  as many on this forum, I'd volunteer to .................   watch.

Yeah, crushed up paper balls, blackboard erasers, but physical contact - nope - inner city schools in the sixties, we carried switchblades, and even home made zip-guns, no teacher outside a Nun ever put their hands on us.  We were Catholic, so never hit a Nun in retaliation, but her car wasn't off limits, they would be stolen on a regular basis.

Lest I forget, Kudo's to the girl, she seems to be recovering just fine, may even become a teacher herself one day

I'm sure they are in certain sectors of the press. I don't think J Head  was working for such a proprietor.
