Hello. I am 47, from the UK, and looking to renew my one-year visa extension based on marriage to a Thai.

We have recently bought a house and my funds are low. I must renew my one year extension in September.

I don't think I will have the necessary 400,000 in the bank two months before I apply for the visa extension and I will try for the 40,000 a month option.

But what documents do I need to take to the UK Embassy to apply for this letter of confirmation? I don't work in Thailand but work freelance (one week in every month or so) in the region in countries including Malaysia, Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, etc. Obviously I fly back to Bangkok to live in between jobs.

What docs should I show at the embassy in order to obtain the letter of confirmation? Invoices? Would that work, or do they want bank statements too?

Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for that reply, does anyone know how long I should seek to obtain a letter from the embassy before I apply for the visa extension? Can I do that two or three months in advance or does it need to be that month?

Thanks for these replies. Really helpful. After looking at the embassy form, does anyone know whether the financial requirement is proof of forward funds (ie, over the next 12 months), or just proof that you have a regular income of at least 40k.

Thank you. C

It is proof of current income often proven by the previous 3 months or so. For an extension based upon marriage it can be your average income for the past year.

I have just been into Jomtien immigration this morning to do my marriage extention, got in at 1100 and was out for 1130. There was no-one waiting so we went straight to desk 6. However this is the first time I have gone down the monthly income route, when she checked my paperwork from the British Embassy she asked 'me' what the exchange rates were, will this be checked later on by some-one else?

I would guess it was checked by the approving officer before you got your under consideration stamp.
