This is basically a follow up from a previous post on my damaged passport. I have the forms from the embassy / UK visa centre to order a new passport to Thailand - can anyone help me on the below?.......

- What should I do about the countersignatory section? There is nobody I know in Thailand for more than a year, and the oldest friends I have here do not have a UK, US, EU, European or Commonwealth passport as prefered. Would I be able to email a copy of the form completed by me (apart from the countersignatory section) to a suitable counter signer in the UK for them to fill in, or would this not be accepted.

- The form gives me the choice of a) including my uncancelled passport or B) giving details of a lost or stolen passport. I am stuck in the middle with this - my old (damaged) passport has now been cancelled (with the corners snipped off), and I have an emergency passport, which i don't want to send as it leaves me without ID. Should I send my old passport and explain that it was cancelled when I obtained my emergency passport?

... aware i could ask this at the visa centre, but if anyone can help it would be better to have my forms filled in when I go back.

Cheers!

Are you certain that you even need to fill in the counter signatory ?

I may be wrong, but I dont think that it needs to be done on PP renewals

Anyway, I just got a lawyer to sign mine and he didnt ask for a fee

Photo copy every page in both passports and send it to them

They do not ask you to send valid passports.

On a passport renewal, a countersignature is only required if your appearance has changed so much since your previous passport was applied for as to render you unrecognizable. This can occasionally happen in case of serious illness, but I doubt it would apply in your case.

Usually, when applying from Thailand, you only send copies of your old passport(s). You can send your old canceled damaged passport if you prefer, having carefully verified it contains no visas or stamps you will need to show in the future. Hold on to your emergency travel document, and only send a copy of that.

countersignatory section

You do not need to fill this in if you are renewing a damaged PP,  it is only if applying for a first ever PP

OP - contrary to the advice you have been given on here, I think that you will, in fact, need to get your replacement passport application countersigned according to HMPO's guidance notes which you can download via the following link:-

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/564880/OS_Guidance_Notes_10.16.pdf

These state on page 13 that a countersignatory will need to fill in section 10 "if you are applying to replace a ... damaged passport". They then go on to say "if you cannot comply with the countersignatory requirements your application may be delayed. You must provide a full explanation in Section 8 and we will contact you, using the details on your application form, to agree a way forward."
