I stand corrected on this item

Respect. I salute you for at least conceding a point. Many won't.

What did they do when the Japanese invaded and occupied? Didn't they fight?

Thailand declared war on the US and Great Britain in March 1942 and welcomed the Japanese into Thailand. That is one of the reasons that there were no escapes from the "Death Railway" for western troops as the locals turned them in for a reward.

Actually, I can contribute to this post having 2 uncles on the "Burma Railroad" and meeting many survivors at the local Returned Services League Aust. RSL. Sadly they are all gone, one thing distinguished them from any other person I have ever met. Their eyes.

There was never any thought about escaping. They were in the middle of a hostile jungle. They only thought about surviving. No

Sorry, to continue, No Thai claimed a reward as no one tried to escape. Where would they go to? The Brits were back near India, the Aussies were in New Guinea. Everyone spoke kindly of he Thais because they often secretly supplied food to them, especially those very short sweet bananas.
