Villager killed by wild elephants in Chachoengsao
By The Nation

CHACHOENGSAO: -- A villager collecting food in a forest reserve near a wildlife sanctuary in Chachoengsao province was killed by wild elephants on Monday afternoon, police said.

The villager was identified as Chalee Sophakul, 45, who was a resident of Ban Nayao village in Tambon Tha Kradan of Sanam Chaikhet district.

It is thought he was killed by a herd of wild elephants.

His friend told police that they were looking for editable plants in the forest reserve near Khao Ang Rua wildlife sanctuary near their village at 4.30pm when they spotted the wild elephants.

The elephants charged so they ran for their lives, the friend said.

But the friend said he noticed Chalee had not followed him, so he alerted authorities.

A group of 30 villagers and rescuers returned to the spot at about 9pm to retrieve Chalee’s body.

Collecting herbs from the forest land they burned illegally previously?

More to this story than just pissing off an elephant....

Yes, he was maybe/probably an ivory poacher that lost that hand of poker.

We'll never know.

All I do know is DON'T F with elephants!

I won't even get within 50 yards of the ones that are supposedly tame.

Same goes for lions, tigers and bears.
