Korean tourists and dive instructor 'hunted' for damaging coral off Phuket

PHUKET:-- A concerned diver captured pictures of Korean tourists and their Thai dive instructor stepping on coral while diving at Koh Racha Yai yesterday. The diver then shared the snaps with other divers and officials in the hopes of bringing the offenders to justice.

A social media user who calls himself ‘Seaman Freeman’ shared the pictures of ‘Try Dive’ activities to a LINE group titled ‘Healthy Reefs’.

According to him, the incident occurred at about 11:55am when two women, along with their dive instructor, spent 15 minutes posing on the coral and taking photos of each other. The user's pictures also showed the instructor holding a tourist's hand to seemingly balance her on the coral while pictures were being taken.

The whole point of learning to dive is to learn to respect and appreciate the underwater environment. Too bad the instructor here has no respect for the place he makes his living. I was taught by a very good instructor in Vietnam. Don't touch anything and always do your best to never touch, kick or hit anything with equipment. That instructor needs some retraining.

Very, very likely it was not an instructor at all.

 

 

What's the problem?  It's not like they were feeding the fish. 

More like lets blame the koreans for our dead coral. 

Things like this while dumping millions of gallons of raw sewage into phuket waters just blow my mind. 

Phuket needs to get black listed by tourists.

Then everything will be ok.win win.
