BANGKOK: -- A 10,000 baht reward has been offered by metropolitan police for information that will lead to the arrest of a car windshield cleaner for allegedly setting fire to the Thai-Belgian bridge recently.

The suspect was identified as Samran Muangkhiew, a jobless who made a living cleaning windshields of stationary cars caught in traffic on Andre Dunant road.

Pol Maj Pitipol Promkaew, investigative inspector of Thung Mahamek police, said that Samran was arrested on drug charges five times – once each in Bang Rak, Lumpini and Thung Mahamek and twice in Klong Toey.

After the fire incident which happened under the bridge where garbage bins were kept, police examined the CCTV system at and around the bridge and found a man emerging from beneath the bridge.

Leah,  I'd like to string him up myself for causing me and many others
motorists to sit there for over an hour in a dead traffic jam yesterday
just to cross that bridge.....

Gotta be crazy to use Rama 4 at the moment or for the next 2 months it seems !

He's lucky he was not convicted....otherwise he would be looking at 75 years on the inside.  :coffee1:

CCTV footage from police of Samran Muangkiew on Feb. 28 near the Thai Belgium Bridge.

BANGKOK — Been stuck in traffic on Rama IV Road and need someone to blame? Police say this is your guy.

Police on Thursday offered a reward of 10,000 baht for information leading to the arrest of a homeless man accused of starting a fire below Thai-Belgian Bridge late last month, though their evidence is thin.

Well, maybe if we could see his face someone could identify him!  Traffic is now (excessively)  bad on Sukhumvit and adjoining sois during rush hours.  Chalk it up to gridlock caused by the bridge being closed in one direction during these times.

Maybe the "powers that be" could find a way to take one third to one half of the taxis off the road to improve overall Bangkok traffic.  Perhaps alternate days off.  So many of them are empty and trolling for customers ( whom they often refuse to carry anyway) .  This would benefit the remaining taxis by increasing their business and at the same time remove hundreds of cars from traffic.  Just a thought.
