Two Borei Keila land activists were arrested yesterday by district police for taking part in Black Monday protests calling for the release of incarcerated human rights defenders. Sor Sorn and Nat Sreynak, who were both wearing black T-shirts, were detained at about 8:45am as they prepared to rally in support of jailed activists and called for a solution to the land dispute still affecting 14 Borei Keila families.

The women were later released from Phnom Penh’s 7 Makara district police station last night. Ms. Sorn said police told them they were arrested for wearing black shirts and attempting to take part in Black Monday protests.

She said: “The arrest is a violation of my rights, because I did not do anything wrong. They’ve just arrested me for wearing a black shirt. “I had no weapon. There were only two of us and more than 20 officers. It’s a violation,” she alleged.
