KHON KAEN: -- A top high school in Khon Kaen is being praised after four of its students got 100% on the national O-Net maths tests.

The O-Net tests are for students finishing high school who are going onto further education.

But they were not the only ones celebrating great results at Khon Kaen Withayanon school, said director Yuthasart Kongpetch.

In addition to the four perfect maths results he said that 38 others had been accepted to study medicine, dentistry and veterinary science from the school.

And four others had won bursaries to study abroad in Japan, he said.

Students nationwide have been waiting nervously for the results of the exams that are important for their future.

Well done to all concerned, excellent outcome.

How about studying the teaching methodology and systems employed at these locations, identifying the salient points and applying them accross the education system, if appropriate.

Sounds like a logical idea, oh well never mind, moving on swiftly.

Congratulations to the students BUT here are 4 students with 100% when the average score was about 25%... for this years v-net (vocational education national evaluation test) the math teacher here told me that even he could not understand 3 of the questions because of how they were formulated, he is 59 and has a PhD. in Mathematics... so these 4 students from 1 school scoring 100% is a phenomenal achievement but with how they usually deal with exams here in Thailand this has a quite salty, fishy smell around it!

Well I guess all the parents paid to get the 100%,

Am I correct, thats how it works isn't it

that does happen, anywhere not just thailand. the safer assumption would be to think of the all the money spent on tutor schools in order to get excellent scores. that's how crippled the education system is here. parents always dream of sending their kids to so-called sathit demonstration schools where entry is extremely competitive.

they know what works! thailand has demonstration (sathit) schools attached to universities. the problem is, it seems that those schools were never meant to be replicated. they just stand there as a pillar of excellence available only to those who can enter. as for the rest of the kids (and parents) in thailand, dreams are still free.
