Advice for Visa Requirement.

Featured Replies

First this is my personal situation.

1. Married to a Thai national.

2. British Citizen

3. Resident in France.

4. Over 50.

5. Wife lives and works in France - long term residence card holder.

6. Plan to retire in 3 years maximum.

I work for a large multinational organization with it's HQ in France. With my job I travel extensively, mainly Europe but also US and Asia.

Mostly project work in IT.

An opportunity is about to present itself to move to Asia to run several projects in the region until I retire.

What I would like to do is to relocate to Thailand with my wife and use Thailand as the base for six months then relocate to China until the end of the contract.

I will be on an expat contract and still fiscally resident in France.

I would spend 50% of my time outside of Thailand during the 6 month period.

I would spend the majority of time in Thailand working from our HQ in Bangkok, but I would not be employed by them. My role would be like an external consultant.

Basically I am looking for what Visa option I should go for or I am OK just being Visa exempt.

Thanks in advance

Mike

Are you going to be in the office here when not traveling?

You could possibley get a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage to a Thai that would allow unlimited 90 day entries for a year from the date of issue.

OK, thanks - I was concerned that I would need to get a work permit etc..... Which might be a challenge not being employed by the local entity.

Yes, Sometimes. Either HQ in Bangkok or one of the Factories.

Whether you would need a work permit or not would depend upon what you would be doing.

Meetings and such can be done without a work permit.

Where did he write he would be doing that here. Project management could be a trip to here for a meeting which would not require a work permit.

"to move to Asia to run several projects in the region"

"I would spend 50% of my time outside of Thailand during the 6 month period."  = 3 month in Thailand

"I would spend the majority of time in Thailand working from our HQ in Bangkok"

He isn't here for a meeting but to work.

  • 2 months later...
