We all know that sugar is bad for us, but a growing body of scientific knowledge reveals that one particular kind is fast-tracking us to chronic ill health.

Fructose – a compound of the carbon, hydrogen and oxygen atoms which comprise sugar – might sound like the fruity, "natural" member of the sweet-stuff family, but new research confirms it as the demon in our diets.

You'll have to pry that 6 pk of little brownies at 7-11 from my dead hands. They're sooo good.

If a label has more than 7 ingredients, that's a concern. I expect 2 extra, depending what it is: emulsifier & preservative. The rest should actually be food, and if sugar is #1 or 2, more concern

A package a week won't kill you. A package a day just might. Certainly won't help your waistline, but that's probably not a concern.

And ?

Fructose, unprocessed, isn't bad for you. High fructose corn syrup is. The fiber fruits have slows down sugar absorbing in your gut. Eating fruits fill you up, while corn syrup can be consumed in large quantities from drinks alone.

Fructose attached to glucose is sucrose.

Fructose is very sweet and cheap.

Frucs the liver.

Sugar is sugar. regardless of the name.

It’s not good for the body, even when taken slowly. That just slows the glycemic problem. It’s stll sugar in your body, no matter what vehicle it takes to get there.

Just don't make "Overnight oats". What a horrifically disgusting fraud these overnight oats are. Barely eatable. Princess Diana has a lot to answer for. I can't believe how disgusting that stuff is. Luckily a 711 sausage cheese toastie washed it down, but the horror.

This article can be compared to drinking an energy drink made from natural ingredients, where everything has been concentrated into a 200 ml bottle. Then you drink five of them every day to maintain your energy level, instead of having a few cups of brewed coffee and eating a few pieces of fruit.

Natural does not mean harmless. When you concentrate sugar, caffeine, and calories into a drink, you remove many of the natural limits that come with whole food.

In the end, it comes down to lifestyle, eating habits, and how much processed food we choose to eat every day. Then some wonder why more people struggle with low mood and depression.

Well, whenever you eat some fruit in Thailand, and there are plenty, you will consume sugar.

Half glucose, half fructose, both are sugars.

So, to avoid your fructose go to fruits with less sugar.

To the title ... No matter what you, proteins, carbs, fats, just try to eat the most nutrient dense, less caloric version of it.

I cut saturated fats as much as possible. Along with simple sugars, and try to avoid anything with added sugar.

Oh yea, learn how to read the damn labels, if buying, eating food with labels. And actually read them.

Hard to do with my pastry addiction, so exercise as much moderation as possible, and home cooked is always healthier, as I control the sugar.

Over consumption of refined sugars and grains can be a health hazard. An indicator would be the bmi waistline ratio.

Reading food labels has become more of translation problem than ever before. Here is a list of all the different names for sugars and sweeteners. Many I'd never even heard of before, so how do we know, even reading the labels, if there is a sugar included?
Personally, I avoid any with a Glycemic Index above 4.

I became a label reader when I first started bodybuilding and nutrition at 17. I heard this from other's who were pros and who wrote books on the subject. The food industry wants people to be blind, although it's mandatory to list ingredients on labels. They know most won't research about nutrition or plainly don't care, eating what they want for taste.

No hydrogenated oils (full or partial) please, though most have gotten away from that.

If added sugar alone is ~25% of the carbs gram, NO THANKS. There really should be no need for added sugar, unless masking an acidic main ingredient.

Fructose is entirely processed in the liver. Too much, the liver converts it to triglycerides, hence Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease ( NAFLD )

I stew apple with plenty of water, plus ginger, cinnamon, and cloves. I separate the water from the stewed apple, which reduces the frutose content by about 15%

You could just not eat apples. Berries are more nutrient dense.

Stewing of an apple will however remove all Vitamin C.

No need to rush death. Easy to enjoy all the things you like, just a little moderation, or adjustment. May even find things you didn't know you liked. Can extend a few years, or at least keep you looking good, if not into exercising, which I'm not, or some can't.

A few years might not matter, till you hit your 70's, 🙄

Between 50-90% depending on stewing conditions, not all. I leave the peel on to preserve nutrients and fibre.

I was in a small eatery in the Philippines once and noted they served fresh pineapple juice. I asked for one. "With or without?" the lady smiled nicely. "With or without what?" my puzzled retort. "SUGAR!" she grinned broadly. "Oh do I want sugar on my sugar, Sugar?" She didn't get it. No wonder so many kids have such black gaps in their teeth.

Sounds really good! Do not, do NOT, under any circumstances, visit Victory Bakery on Ngamwongwan! You won't get out of there alive! Umm, butter!

Many US products include high fructose corn syrup. Why? Corn is cheap and they don't give a damn about your health!

Banned in Canada and the EU.

I read Thai, but the letters are too small to read and sometimes I don't know the ingredients. If you don't read Thai, take it to a salesgirl and ask if it has HFCS or how much sugar.

Everything is reduced to sugar in the gut. It i essential for life. Thats how our bodies work. The amount of consumption is the key.

First time I have heard proteins and fats are reduced to sugars. Nice to know chemistry is being rewritten.

It's the amount of consumption AND the type of consumption.

Fat people eat potato, rice, pasta, noodles and bread. They drink beer. Thin people eat protein, fat, and low carb vegetables such as bamboo, celery, cabbage, caauliflower, and broccoli.

I am normal BMI. I eat lashings of cheese.

Sugar is not essential for life. Salt and fats are. You're a clown.

Carbohydrates are broken down into sugar. But they are important for daily life as well. The point is that sugar and simple carbs are not really needed and spike your blood sugar level. Complex carbs is what you should eat in addition to fat and protein.
