webfact
Freight operators asked to halt operations during Songkran festival BANGKOK, 3 April 2017 (NNT) – The Department of Land Transport (DLT) has called on freight carriers to avoid transporting cargoes during the Songkran festival to help reduce traffic problems and minimize road accidents. Deputy DLT Director General Kamol Buranaphong said that the agency has launched an intensive campaign to promote road safety and minimize accidents during the upcoming Songkran festival. From 11-17 April, freight trucks are asked to halt operations, especially the transportation of dangerous substances. If they did, they should avoid using routes that the public will be using during the long holiday, he said. However, the DLT has responded to the government’s policies with a strict inspection of trucks operating on main and secondary roads to ensure that the drivers comply with the law. Trucks with modification to the vehicle's body will face a maximum fine of not exceeding 5,000 baht, while the vehicle and the driver will be monitored through a GPS system in real time. The public can alert the authorities of any unsafe driving behaviors by calling the DLT’s Hotline 1584. -- nnt 2017-04-

You would think an Army would have some sort of an idea about logistics. Did they even consider cargo dhips have to be unloaded, air frieght and supplying esentials to people across the country? Shutting down transport and logistics for 7 days will cost billions. Edited April 3, 2017 by Thechook

Thunder26
These people from DLT come up with idiotic ideas. You can't ask companies to stop working. It's up to the companies to stop or not during Songkran.
Stargeezr
Yea, Lets all stop the freight from moving around. What a brilliant idea! 555555 Nice chuckle with this kind of stuff. Geezer

KhunBENQ
Too much excitement. It' s an appeal, not an order/ban. Company operators with a brain will avoid non urgent transport during the time anyway. Don't expect courier services or postal mail to work during the core days. Expect lot of empty shelves during/after the holidays. Stock up in time.
