Owning brings a lot more than just being able to hang a picture on the wall--but you know that. I never said that you said 'need' to sell. What you said was have to sell, which is still not true. Nor was I even referring to you in that comment. I was making the point that a declining asset doesn't need to be sold just because it might be declining on paper--that has nothing to do with you. Once again, since your reading retention skills are so poor, what I posted: "It doesn't mean the spouse need automatically sell it. While it might be a declining asset at that moment in time, that can change in the future--and it's still shelter, it's still a roof over the spouse's head, whether the value at the moment is going up, down, or staying level. It's also still a potential income earner for the spouse as a rental. I've mentioned several times that my Thai in-laws all have rental properties to help fund their retirements--this would also be an option for the spouse." And, once again, it is no concern of mine as to what a stranger does with inherited property. I could care less how many return or don't return to Isan--and, it's none of my business, anyway. And, why do you care--it's none of your business, either. If your reading retention skills were better, you'd remember I listed a number of options my spouse will have with our two properties. One of those options was selling both properties and either renting or buying something else--nothing wrong with that, or moving somewhere else, too. Likely not Isan, though, with the relatives in Bangkok.
