Fairly straightforward inout visa question

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

Like a lot of people I'm a bit confused about what I'm allowed to do VISA-wise, because of changing rules, variable levels of enforcement etc.

So here's my plan:

Travelling to Chiang Mai and entering with a Visa Exemption on a UK passport (30 days). Which I will extend another 30 days; 60 in total.

I then plan to visit Laos for a week and get a single entry Tourist Visa back into Thailand (60 days, w/ 30 days extension).

After that, I'm going to India for a fortnight and will get another single entry Tourist Visa back into Thailand (60 days at least) from the Thai embassy in New Delhi

Then I will depart Thailand and head back to Europe.

Does that all sound reasonable and possible? Anyone foresee me having problems?

Slight complication: I visited Thailand in March last year and departed early July (arrived on a single entry and had a medical extension - cliched motorcycle accident! ;) )

Edit: I've only ever been to Thailand once before (last year), i.e. my passport isn't full of stamps etc!

thanks for any help or guidance!

The only problem I can see the possibility of needing a ticket out of the country within 30 days to board your flight to here. Getting a single entry tourist visa before starting your trip would resolve that problem.

Another possible problem is getting a tourist visa in New Delhi. Many people have been denied a visa there even after the application was accepted by the VFS visa center where you have to apply. A lot of people have lost the visa fee they because of that.

Ah, I've actually already booked a cheap flight out of Thailand within 30 days of arrival which I won't use.

Yep I agree getting a single-entry before my flight out to TH would've been easier, but couldn't because of timing (flying monday, embassy closed today, three day turnaround etc)

Hrm, thanks for the info about Delhi. I suppose I could try and if it fails I could just re-enter TH a second time on a Visa Exemption? At least I'll get another 60 days that way.

Or perhaps I could fly from Delhi -> Laos and get another single entry there?

You would not have a problem entering on a visa exempt entry if you could not get the tourist visa in New Delhi.

Ok, thanks for the info and advice

Have you concidered to get a METV from your home country first (if you are there now)?

It will give you unlimited 60 days entry's for 6 month from the issue day of the visa

That'd be great, but yeah, as I think you've guessed - I'm not in my home country just now! doh

Just an FYI to anyone reading:

Flew from Berlin (SXF)  -> Chiang Mai (CNX) via Moscow and BKK with Aeroflot.

Arrived yesterday, on a UK Passport. No visa; took a visa exemption on arrival at BKK. No checks by the airline or Thai immigration for proof of onward travel etc. Couldn't have been easier/smoother. Check-in lady at Berlin asked if I had a visa, I said no I didn't need one and that was it.

I will be extending my 30 day exemption for another 30 days and then head over to Laos for a week to get a 3 month single entry. Will report any issues etc here then.

Also note;  If you're looking to get a thai Visa in Germany and you're not a German national then the embassy in Berlin requires proof of €5000+ in your bank account! If you're from the UK etc and resident in Germany you can bypass this if you have completed 'Anmeldung'.
