Went to both border crossing to just do a U turn and was told at both that I had to stay in Malaysia for at least one night. I had a Non Imm B before and just needed a little time to get the papers together for another Non Imm Visa. I don't know if this is standard but first time for me.

I have used Sadao for many years when the need arose and never had any problems doing a one hour turn around. However, 3 weeks ago I went for a swift turnaround and was refused entry back into Thailand and was given a letter denying me entry. Had to go back out and spend a couple of days in Peneng sorting out a 60 day tourust visa. Seemingly this rule (law) has been in place for many years but the immigration stations have not enforced it.

TAKE IT FROM ME SADAO ARE ENFORCING IT, MINIMUM 1 DAY OUT OF THAILAND BEFORE YOU RETURN AND YOU MUST HAVE A RECOGNISED VISA WHEN YOU WANT TO RE-ENTER.

Be warned.

When collecting visas from Liverpool Consulate they warn you that if you do a border crossing you are required to remain out of Thailand for 2 - 3 days before re-entry.

That info is wrong the Liverpool consulate website is the only place I have seen that says you have to be out of the country for 48 hours.  There is no rule that says you have to be out of the country any amount of time.

I assume that was for a visa exempt entry. How many had you done this year. You are only allowed 2 per calendar year now (new rule since the 1st of January).

It seems as if they are making up the rules as they go along. It also seems that they are being allowed to make up rules as they go along more and more these days.

For me it was the first time for about 5 years, On my way back in I had to explain that I was waiting for some papers so I could do a Non Imm O. There was a nod of the head and they let me in with a 30 day stamp. There was a sign up on the booth that confirmed two crossings in one year as was stated.
