6-year-old Toshiba, guess= medium size, wall blower, the main unit outside on cement floor.

Regularly maintained.

I'm trying to figure out what the reason can be. I will not do repairs myself but it's hard to explain

to someone.

Doesn't happen always. But it can be disturbing enough at night. In uneven rhythms, like wind caught in the unit.
If the setting is to FAN only, it seems to run round and smoothly. So, exchanging the fan doesn't seem to be the answer.
Any suggestion ??

When you say 'regularly maintained', do you mean that they take the inside covers off and enclose it in a big sort of condom and pressure water clean it?
My aircon developed a random noise, like a fan lose, not regular, but there. They gave it a big clean and it fixed the problem.

Not sure of your catches wind but have Panasonic units that the wall part will close occasionally for a few seconds.  Does not happen often but rather strange when it does and indeed the sound is different as fan is still running but unable to blow air out.  Expect it may be a design feature for something but have not seen any explanation of how/why.

the source seems to be a different one, no issue with flaps

cleaning was done exactly like yours. Pressurized water

It took a while to realize that you were not pulling my/our legs.

But you make it sound that I ought to be content with what I have.

Isn't that just the normal function as the thermostat turns on and off? My unit does that too when it reaches the desired temperature. Barely noticeable though.
